Today in Asbury Park was bittersweet.... I remember riding the merry-go-round as a child, and bringing my daughter to the same merry-go-round when she was a child. The carousel is long gone now, as is everything else that was the Casino of Asbury Park. All that's left is the shell, and people's artwork adorning the bricks of this ghostly apparition. To make it all the more eerie....there was a fire just across the bridge from it in Ocean Grove yesterday. It was still smoldering today. Read moreVisited Asbury Park this weekend and had a great time. Small boardwalk with every kind of restaurant/cafe you can think of --- Cuban, Italian, Chinese, etc. Small specialty shops on the Boardwalk and in the Convention Hall Pavillion that have clothing you won't see anywhere else. A little pricey, but really different items. The beach was very, very crowded even though lifeguards are not on duty yet. There is small water park for very young children. It's an up and coming waterfront community that has plenty of empty shops for growth. I will definitely go back to experience the night time...
Read moreThe Asbury Park casino, brings very fond memories for me, this building housed the merry go round, with an organ in the canter of it. You could ride a horse or other animals as it went up and down while spinning, a long with stationary rides, the horses were decorated and looking like they were in full gallop. The building itself was beautiful. I think it was either brass or copper plated because of the way it oxidized to a lovely green. Its nice to see it...
