Beautiful church with some interesting history. My rating is due to expecting just a quick stop. If we weren't staying walking distance away and had planned to stay longer, I probably would have been disappointed. As others have pointed out, the posted hours were not consistent with the actual time. We wanted to see the church as tourists, so we came during hours posted for visiting / touring. But as we walked in we were informed mass was starting in 30 minutes. We wanted to be respectful so we didn't walk around. The staff were very friendly and polite and I'm glad we got the chance to see the inside. I completely respect the church wanting to be less tourist focused and more exclusively a place of worship, but feel the hours and information should reflect that.

This basilica has the largest unsupported dome ceiling in the region with some of the most ornate statues and architecture one could hope for. They were so kind to allow the Asheville Chamber Ensemble to perform our seasonal concert on the 7th of January and I was blown away by the acoustics. They do have brochures of all kinds to satisfy curiosity for the history of this location. That being said, I have not attended mass or a service at this location but I'm sure it is as every bit reverent as it is beautiful. A must see when traveling through Asheville. They do require masks at this time.

Amazing church and the pastor has a heart of gold. The basilica is beautiful. Sunday tours after mass. Tour guide is a local volunteer who is incredible. One of americas great architects Raphael Guastavino built the church. Its magnificent to behold. And whats best is Jesus is present here. The sacrament of communion is beautifully reverant. And this parish has a true leader shephard! He dedicates all his time to everyone who enters the doors. He has a true heart for Jesus and you can tell on first glance. He answers questions anyone has about the faith during coffee hour.

You must come and visit on Sunday for the 9 AM mass and be sure to stay late to receive the amazing free tour afterwards! It was such a joy and funny to hear our hosts speak about the wonderful things of this church and help us to more appreciate the stained glass, sculptures and architecture. The architect love this place so much he is buried here! We had a wonderful mass with Latin spliced in. The congregation was welcoming. We felt good about giving to this church which is in dire need of repair. Peace, Joshua

I came to the Basilica on Mother's Day to celebrate a memorial mass for my friend. Her father had the mass in her memory since it was the 5th anniversary of her passing. She passed away on Mother's Day. She was a wonderful person and is truly missed by all of us who knew her. ❤ I absolutely love this church even though it is not my parish. I think anybody who visits Asheville should come and check out the history and relish in the beauty of its statues and stained glass windows.

Beautiful Architecture can be seen in Basilica of St Lawrence. It was completed in 1909. The Basilica of St. Lawrence is designed by Rafael Gustavino and Richard Sharpe Smith, renowned architects on the Biltmore House. Their updated mass time schedules and visiting hours are available in their website. You can also book a tour with a guide on their website. Make sure to book it atleast a week in advance to get confirmation or approval. Worth to visit!
