Disgusted I spent my money here. After spending two hours researching gluten free options at local restaurants this morning, I decided on twisted crepe. I rehearsed my order the whole car ride however when I got to the counter I failed to mention the one vital part of the order. I’m allergic to wheat and gluten. It was a Togo order, so as soon as I opened the box and realized my mistake I called twisted crepe and was essentially told you can reorder and purchase a new order but no we cannot fix it for you. I hoped that maybe they just didn’t understand what I was asking over the phone, and maybe thought I was trying to get free food or that I was trying to get out of the gluten-free up-charge, so I went back in person with the food in hand and when they said they wouldn’t fix it I asked for a refund. The manager came in and basically said sorry it’s your fault tough luck. I tried explaining if I had dined in I would have sent it back to the kitchen so I don’t understand why the same respect is not given to a Togo costumer. He tried to claim cost but I’m sorry everyone accounts for food waste. I didn’t bring the food back because I didn’t like it or I accidentally ordered one dish but later decided I wanted a different dish. I have a food allergy and gluten intolerance. The 36$ of food was worthless to me unless I want to be sick the next few days. Again he told me I could pay for the order again to which I admitted that I had spent my last 40$ there that morning (and tipped) and that I didn’t have the $ to buy it again. He told me I should give the food to the homeless. At that I got up and left leaving the food on the counter. It was just shocking that he cared more about the food not going to waste and that a homeless person deserved it, but I a paying customer didn’t deserve to have my order corrected that I couldn’t eat because I’m allergic to it and don’t want widespread inflammation and debilitating GI issues for a freaking crepe. I understand it was my mistake that I forgot to communicate that with the order taker. But it’s disheartening when people start caring more about the money they can line their pockets with rather than the community/person in front of them. He doesn’t know I haven’t been able to eat solids in about a week and don’t have the energy to cook for myself and was trying to lift my spirits and treat myself, he doesn’t even know if my allergies are real, and he definitely didn’t realize how insulting his suggestion to feed it to the homeless would be considering I am one decision away from homelessness everyday. I probably should have just went to the store, but I wouldn’t have had energy to prepare the energy after I bought it. Business is business, I get that. I’ve just never caused such an uproar over accommodating an allergy in my whole 10 years in the food service industry and neither has any restaurant I’ve worked for. Regardless of if the person let me know up front or not. Because I cared more about their physical safety than money or inconveniences to me or the kitchen. Food looked great but I won’t be returning to try any of their gluten free options after this...
Read moreFood Fun Adventure Weekend started with Fat Man Reviews visiting Twisted Crêpe in Asheville, North Carolina. Twisted Crêpe offers french style crêpes in both sweet or savory.
We started with the Rusty's Signature, savory crêpe. It comes with turkey, prosciutto, pineapple, spinach, tomato, Asiago cheese and a Cajun rémoulade. The crêpe was hot and crispy. The meats and veggies were fresh, and the pineapple added a surprising sweetness with the dish. The star was the rémoulade. It was creamy, slightly salty and added spice but not hot kick. The entire dish worked well.
We then tried the special of the day. A sweet crêpe made with sweet butter, cinnamon, sugar and honey. The crêpe was light and fluffy, it was sweet but not instant cavity sweet. The butter and honey made the entire bite just melt into a delicious mouthful.
Twisted Crêpe offered several types of sweet and savory crêpes, soups and salads, coffee and teas. The only knock I will give to this ace is the silverware was very dull and made cutting the crêpes difficult. Twisted Crêpe is Fat...
Read moreThis place came recommended by some folks we ran into on a whim. We usually have our favorite places to stop when we are in town but decided to give this place a try. It’s sooooo good. I got falafel crepe and my husband got something with chicken and pineapple I think. This was the only place we visited twice while we were in town this year. Problem is, our second visit, we were in our way out of town and drove out of our way into downtown Asheville for breakfast here on the Saturday after thanksgiving and they’d decided to close their business to the public for some kind of loyalty event. The doors were unlocked and they were there, just only serving certain people or something? It was very confusing and seemed like a really terrible business decision to make on one of the busiest tourism weekends of the year. We went to the cafe next door and had a decent breakfast and great service.
But the food is excellent and this place is totally worth a visit. I’ll be craving that falafel crepe all year.
