I went to Woolworth Walk today; I have often walked by this art gallery although I never entered. I heard mixed reviews about it and decided to visit. The artwork is standard, there is some interesting photography and some nice art that children would like. It's also very affordable, less than 100 dollars a piece so that is great if your on a budget.
Although I found the upkeep of the art gallery and the customer service to be very bad. Many of the art sections were missing sign in/sign out sheet; there was paper scattered all over the ground, everything was very crowded and there was no clear organization. When I walked in, no employee greeted me despite there be multiple employees at a front desk. They were just sitting there, talking to each other. I asked one employee,an older woman with grey hair for assistance in a piece I was interested in for my child. I didn't' know if you could bring the artwork to the front-desk ,if you had to inform an employee, if there was a ticket. She just ignored me as if I wasn't there. There are no instructions posted in how ordering artwork works.
When I left the store I nearly tripped on their sidewalk sign which was laying on the ground. Very disappointing and lacking gallery, I would not recommend...
Read moreI am an artist that exhibited at WW. I waited 3 years to be offered a small space downstairs. I took it, and also expressed my desire to be moved upstairs when space became available. I was told there was a waiting list for that type of move, and to contact Erin. I did. I displayed work downstairs and had moderate but consistent sales. I inquired about every 6 months about the waiting list. Sales are slower downstairs and shoplifting is higher. I inquired a couple of times about the use of the elevator. I was told it could be used, but was not insured for the public. I always wondered why not. There are two flights of stairs to go to the lower level. Obviously, many customers will not choose to shop downstairs because of the difficulty of the stairs. The last time I inquired of the internal wait list, I was told it had been discontinued. Movement to an upstairs location was on a subjective basis. By that point, I had been waiting for three years. It was at this point that I cancelled my contract and vacated the space. I prefer to work with galleries that are honest with...
Read moreI recently went into Woolworths and was asked to leave as I did not have a mask.
When asking for a mask they state that they do not provide them as they do not wish to compete with the artists who make masks for sale
At which point I asked the woman working behind the counter: as someone who works in retail and gets mask shipments for customers, I see that you have a disposable mask. Do you really not have any?
They still refused to provide a mask
Ask yourself: are we really okay with monetizing public safety?
What about those who don't have means to buy a mask?
I left the store and actually found a mask in my pocket whereupon I went back into the store and voiced my concerns to the manager.
She was very receptive and we had a great dialogue, I truly appreciate her taking the time to speak in detail with me about my concerns.
However, it was conveyed that they will not provide masks for the public.
We cannot stand for the gentrification of public health.
Buying a $40 chic mask should not be the...
