I called this office and got a lady name Kia, something like that. I couldn’t quite understand her pronunciation of her name. I called and ask questions about my membership. When she explained my situation she mentioned an analogy to help me understand the rules of my membership, with a Netflix subscription. When I informed her that this was a bad analogy she then stated with an attitude of confidence it’s not. “ If you don’t pay your Netflix subscription you can’t watch any of the shows” I replied yes but that’s not the rules of the YMCA membership. She was so confident it is. ITS NOT!!!! The YMCA membership have to be paid even if you going or not going to the center. How is that the same? Netflix wouldn’t ask for money of past months. If I pay I pay if I don’t I don’t. I would like her and her co-workers to know she was wrong and to help her out. A better analogy would be leasing a car. The bank will loan me $30,000 for a car with an agreement to pay monthly. If I go any where that month or not I still have to pay the monthly loan. My membership for the YMCA is 109$ monthly. I can even pay 1,308$ for the year or pay monthly. A gym membership and a subscription are two different things. A gym membership I have to sign a contract to not owe. A subscription won’t allow you to watch their programs if you owe. Employees! With attitude! Why these employees allowed to answer the phone and...
Read moreMy wife and I cancelled our membership a year ago and the Y continued to charge us. We emailed asking how to cancel twice in August. After not receiving a response to either of those messages my wife cancelled in person on 8/14/24. The YMCA continued to charge us for a whole year, we disputed Sep and Oct charges through our credit card and won those disputes. Our life got a lot busier after that and we didn’t continue to check if they were illegitimately charging us. After explaining all of this to them they only credited back 3 months. We are still owed fees for 7 months. The Y says they responded to one of the emails, but we clearly showed it was never received. They had no comment on the other email, they couldn’t find the cancellation form, and had no comment on why they didn’t respond to the credit card disputes. I foolishly hope someone within the YMCA can read this message and escalate an obvious issue. Practically, if you plan on cancelling your membership make sure you receive written confirmation that it was received and cancelled. I also hope the giving.org complaint process can help us get...
Read moreI wish Atlanta had higher standards for leadership but at the well-established nonprofit like the YMCA they are comfy in their jobs and don’t actually care about the community. Be very careful about giving this nonprofit your credit card or bank info. After I cancelled, they continued to charge me for 10 months. After I noticed and reached out, I was met with an attitude and hostility from Michael Defina. There were also apparently other higher-ups CC’ed on our emails who never said a word so they seem to approve how we were treated - essentially YMCA denying I cancelled because they are “still looking” for my cancellation form (somehow that takes a month to open a drawer?). I tried to get the person in charge at the Buckhead location on the phone, Patrick Kirwan, and left a voicemail, even after the front desk person said he was in his office he neglected to answer the phone or ever respond to my...
