INITIAL REVIEW ON JOILISA B.
To provide some background, this was my first visit at Snob Life Studio and my first closure install. I traveled 2 hours from out of state because I wanted quality work for a special occassion. It’s easy to F up a closure, so I made sure I did my research and picked a good spot in Atlanta - Snow Life Studios. I purchased their Fall Sew In Special w/ Closure for $275 and had an appointment booked w/ JOILISA B. I was very disappointed with Joilisa and her work.
I. Timeliness / Professionalism a. The braider started my hair promptly and did a wonderful job, the braids were tiny and flat and were not too tight. b. I was charged $10 extra for the net without being informed that there was a cost or being asked if I wanted a net. There was no fine print indicating an extra charge for a net when I booked my appointment. c. Because they were taking a while to dye my closure, Joilisa informed me that she was going to start someone else ahead of me. She proceeded to install her whole sew in and put her under the dryer. While that client was under the dryer (and my closure was already ready), I sat for almost an hour (I kept track of the time). An hour in which she could have installed my hair, and sat me under the dryer. Instead, I watched as Joilisa sat on her phone and purchased weed. I don’t care if you smoke, put purchasing weed on the job, especially while you should be working on my head in unacceptable. All the clients and the other stylists noticed and acknowledged the smell. After that client was finished drying, she proceeded to take another 40-60 minutes to curl her hair and then chat for 20 minutes.
II. Quality of Work a. The closure was not laid down correctly from the beginning. Being that it was my first closure install, I didn’t really inspect it until I got home, as I didn’t want to mess up the way she styled my hair. I have timestamped videos and picture showing how it is lifting at the hairline and how horrible it looks. b. I also have several loose and lifting tracks, 1 week in. c. The install (not the braids) is too tight and has pulled out my edges.
III. Snob Life Customer Service Jah’maica fixed my closure by tightening it and it looks much better, but I believe for what I paid, it should have been partially refunded and/or redone. Snob Life says that the stylist who F’s it up has to fix their own mistakes, but Joilisa was unavailable the only days I could come in from out of state. I think the salon should stand by their stylists work and fix it for free, regardless of whose doing it. Why would I want her to do my hair again anyway if she let me walk out with that?
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND JOILISA. Thank you Jah’maica for doing what you could.
UPDATE
Soon after I posted this review on her Style Seat (literally the next day - after I had reached out to her multiple times prior to getting my hair fixed), Joilisa emailed me the following:
"I would like to offer you a complementary sew-in when you come back to Atlanta.
As a stylist, StyleSeat has been extremely beneficial with building my clientele. It would be awesome if you can remove or make edit to the comment so that I can continue receiving new clients as this is my form progressional work."
I responded saying that I would edit my review to reflect her apology and inquired about booking the free service. I never received a response, only to find out that she deleted her original Style Seat (with my review) and made a new one. I think that is insane, that she would want to dupe potential clients instead of...
Read moreOne word: TERRIBLE. These workers are unprofessional, EXTREMELY RUDE, and very inconsiderate. I went in for an appointment about a week ago. I didn’t begin receiving services until about 40 minutes after my appointment, and the stylist didn’t even introduce herself to me. After sitting & waiting for 30 minutes, someone approached me & asked who I was there for, and I told them. They called out to my stylist to let her know that her client was waiting, however, that didn’t make her approach me any quicker. After about 15 minutes, she approached me by saying “I didn’t even know you was here.” No proper introduction or anything. I drove 2 and a half hours to the salon just to receive my wig install, considering the fact that I was going on my birthday vacation the following morning & wanted my hair done perfectly for my trip. However, my dreams were completely crushed after being treated so rudely... I ended up being told that I’d have to purchase a wig from them for $500 because my wig wasn’t “suitable” for the install and that my wig didn’t fit...oddly, I had never had this issue before. I was ultimately told by Licia that she would NOT be able to do my hair unless I bought more hair. All in all, I drove 2 hours to the salon, paid a $50 deposit, and was told an hour and a half after my appointment time that I wouldn’t be able to get my hair done. After refusing to buy their hair, I decided that I’d just leave. The stylist acted as if she didn’t care after I told her that I was leaving in the morning & didn’t even make an effort to apply the wig. I left the salon without a refund or apology. I also proceeded to leave with my hair still braided down and didn’t even bother letting her continue to take it down because I couldn’t bare to stay in there any longer . Before I left, the stylist didn’t say ANYTHING to me at all or at least make an effort to lighten the circumstances. I left angry, frustrated, and humiliated. That night, I ended up booking a same day appointment in my hometown & the wig fit perfectly . The stylist didn’t complain about the hair AT ALL and even ended up complimenting the texture and quality. Moral of the story, these workers are unprofessional, were looking for a quick penny, and Licia did NOT want to do my hair & she definitely made it clear with...
Read moreTo begin, I live in California, but I am no stranger to traveling states to get my hair done. I know what I like and I have no problem paying for good service. This is what I thought I was getting when I ordered a wig from one of the stylists, Tevin. I trusted Tevin because he did an install for me in October and I was pleased so I decided to order a wig from him. Tevin opened a web page for clients to order units, I ordered a unit on October 9th, followed all directions. The next day Tevin refunded me and asked me to pay him via Venmo or Cash app. I thought to myself seems strange but like I said, I trusted him… nearly 3 weeks go by and I hear no word from Tevin, no shipping number so I text him asking for a refund if he hadn't started on my unit yet. His assistant Winter calls me and tells me my unit was “made already” and the custom coloring could be done over the weekend she asked me to send my shipping info and custom color info over again which led me to believe he took my money and completely forgot to make my unit. Tuesday, the following week, comes and I hear no word or tracking number. At this point, the event I needed it for has come and gone and I’m frustrated. I want my money back and they told me they needed to sell my unit before giving me my money back. Are you kidding me? The experience was overall terrible at this point I still have no unit nor my money. Tevin sent my unit and I asked him for my tracking number multiple times, all in all, I never received a tracking number. When I received my unit nearly a whole month later November 6th, my unit was clearly an old wig. The hair was really thin, the color was okay but the quality of the hair was trash. I can’t even wear that thing without a hat, this wig looked nothing like the work Tevin advertises on his social media page. This was by far the worst hair experience I’ve ever had. I tried to call the shop to speak to someone about this but of course my call went straight to voicemail....
