I’ll say the front desk staff, And my medical assistant were amazing. They were running behind schedule, but they had informed me right when I came in. I was suffering with sciatic pain. if you know anything about that, it’s debilitating you feel like you can’t move everything hurts whether you stand sit lay down it doesn’t matter it’s very very painful and this was the first time I was ever experiencing anything like this. When the doctor finally came in, I felt like he was very rushed and did not do a thorough job at checking me. I knew they were running behind schedule, and I kind of figured that this was how it was going to be he refused to give me a X-ray because he said that he was sure it was sciatic pain and that it would not show up in an x-ray. However, I would’ve liked to just get it checked out! To rule out anything else. I could tell by his demeanor that that was not going to happen that day, so I followed up with my primary care However, when I left, the doctor gave me prescriptions to pick up at a local Walgreens when I got to the Walgreens to see if the prescriptions was ready The pharmacist informed me that the prescription that the doctor put through for a muscle relaxer had not been seen at that location, nor any of the surrounding In over 6 years, meaning that the medication that he prescribed was somewhat of an outdated medication.the pharmacist saw that I was in pain and asked me to take a seat and said that she would take care of it by calling And requesting them to give them a more up-to-date medication, the phone that the pharmacist was on, was not by any means on speaker, but loud so I overheard the conversation which was that the doctor didn’t want to switch the medication and asked, why couldn’t I go search around for the medication at another location? My thing is, he just saw me.He could physically see how much pain I was in. if you knew that I was in that much pain why Would you ever suggest that I would search around the Rhode Island area for prescription that is outdated? I am a Black woman and we know that black women in general have a higher chance of not receiving The care that they need because of these doctors Implicit biases! This doctor was a doctor of color, but was south Asian. (Indian, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, nepal, etc) in my experience, they don’t always align themselves with or view themselves as people of color As technically, they’re considered Caucasian and so I wonder Was it just because it was the day before Thanksgiving, (nov.27) and they have been running behind and thats Why I was somewhat rushed. It is a urgent care. It could be that my tears, my pain, the way that I walked in, was not convincing enough for him to want to help me out and switch the Script So I would not have to Uber around the city looking for The exact outdated medication that he prescribed. The pharmacist at the Walgreens on cottage Street in Pawtucket was great. Pushed back because they could see the pain I was in, and he finally decided to switch the prescription to one that was in Stock this took about 35 additional minutes, so imagine you leaving the hospital in the most pain you’ve ever been in your life, you make it to the pharmacy to pick up your prescription that was given to you justTo find out that they don’t even have the prescription and that the doctor at first was unwilling Because he wanted you to drive around and look for the prescription that he gave even after he witnessed how much pain you were in! the staff were amazing, and checked in on me while I was waiting in the room because they were Two hours behind. the medical assistant was a Kind and understanding the only person that I had an issue with was the actual physician! which is unfortunate! I understand that these doctors are human too just like us. They have bad days they have good days. They have busy days they have overwhelming days. Right away, I could tell this was an overwhelming day for him! however, this is your job! Talking over your patients, rushing them through not taking closer...
Read moreThey misdiagnosed me and I’m still dealing with the consequences of not being diagnosed with Shingles early enough. I had to live through so much excruciating pain while the virus spread with no antiviral or pain management.
This has been the worst pain of my entire life. I was visibly crying in pain while waiting well past my appointment time in the waiting room. Others who came in after me was called first despite my distress.
The nurse who took my temp and symptoms brushed off my fever, saying “it was probably due to my HAIR causing heat and the temp to spike”. I’m an African American woman with short/medium locs. This obviously has nothing to do with why I had a fever, but the racial bias in medicine is very real.
My pain and distress was brushed off, my temperature was seen as just not real, and the rash I had wasn’t examined. The doctor who came in (after waiting in the exam room for another 30+ mins) didn’t even physically examine me. He stood by the door for the 5-7 mins he met with me, he seemed to be in a rush. Probably why he missed the shingles rash that spanned from my neck down my arm (which I mentioned but he interrupted me to again brush me off). The doctor said I probably just slept on my arm wrong. I said I’m in excruciating pain and asked if he could provide any other reasons why I could be in this amount of pain 10/10. He told me to “get a better pillow or something…just look it up online and test it out”. He came in and left in under 7 minutes. He didn’t even say anything about checking out etc.
They left me in the room for another 20+ mins without any updates and I had to just find my own way out. He wrote me a prescription for a muscle relaxer which would be ineffective against the immense amount of pain and virus.
I ended up in the emergency room, sobbing in excruciating pain after enduring shingles untreated for several days. The ER doctor immediately identified the now really bad case of untreated shingles.
It’s important to take the antiviral within DAYS of onset to avoid neural damage and long term complications. However, bc of this urgent care clinic, I went untreated well past the first several days.
It’s been over 3 months as I write this now, and I’m STILL experiencing complications from this shingles misdiagnosis ordeal.. the chronic fatigue alone has made me miss weeks of work. I’m currently on 3 different medications for chronic nerve pain from the damage as a result of being misdiagnosed due to this clinic’s racial bias, gaslighting, and overall incompetence.
As a Black woman, this sort of bias isn’t uncommon, and it’s well known that reform in healthcare is needed. If I don’t speak up, and seek justice, this will only continue.
As a human, I just hate that I have to personally (and literally) pay the price for this in so many different ways. I can only hope that this clinics incompetence doesn’t cost...
Read moreBooked an appointment and was in there very early incase I could be seen sooner as I was scared and suffering, yet still walk ins were being taken before me. Confirmed by the app that shows status of patient names in a queue not just assumptions again I was also waiting for 90 mins so I observed many interactions that just didn’t seem fair. No bedside manner or compassion for dealing with people that are sick, I felt invisible upon walk in without a greeting or direction and like I was bothering her by being there. It takes a lot for me to go to a walk-in so you have to know that I was very scared and unwell. I’m also someone that is the first person to compliment, be kind and support Someone doing a great job. This also hurts me to share this experience. Unfortunately, I left with a very incomplete discharge, no revisit from a Dr or nurse just someone came in who was handed my papers to let me go. I was prescribed a medication that causes anaphylactic response because the nurse that took my vitals didn’t ask me allergies and even though the doctor wrote it down on the sheet he’s still prescribed that medication… luckily I was aware enough to catch it and have them correct it but it worries me to have these mistakes happening and needing to trust their professionalism. No follow up or compassion letting me know my test results or any other instructions, to feel better etc. I just felt really horrible with the whole experience on top of being really ill and scared for my well-being. As I said it takes a lot for me to trust I should go to a walk-in etc. so when I do I would expect to be treated kindly. Sadly it just seems like they’re miserable and maybe they need to have compassion training to show more courtesy to people who are ill and need support. I’m just really sad that in a state of me walking in with severe dizziness and nausea, pain and palpitations, feeling so unwell, all by myself with a trashcan in case I got sick, shaking, dizzy that there was no sense of support or inquiries as to my needs. I hope that if you’re ever in need of their services that have a better experience than I. Or go elsewhere. It is just atrocious customer service. The online booking is convenient and I urge you to take advantage of that if you can wait/ are going as waits and walk ins are 2+ hours if available at all. This is an urgent care and should be for people that are having urgent matters such as I was, there are so many people Walking in and being favored Or so it seemed, and then being urged to hurry up and approach the desk when I can barely see straight or walk, really set me off In addition to almost being prescribed something that could’ve sent me to the emergency room or worse! I’m just so...
