Contrivance Wine & Mead Co. — Attraction in Auburn

I was googling where to get a glass of wine in Tukwila and stumbled into a little place called Contrivance. I was looking for something a little off the beaten path that wasn’t in the mall space. On arrival, it was clear that these guys were enthusiasts. Their decor has a steampunk theme and someone there has some serious art skills, as detail runs rampant throughout.

While i had come for wine, it turns out they make several meads as well. The red blend i had could keep up with any of the woodinville wineries, no problem. I’ve have little to no exposure to mead, but i took the plunge and did a flight tasting. Pretty good stuff! When i heard mead was honey based, I expected a lot of sweetness, but they seem to do well minimizing the sugar and go for more flavor than anything. The strawberry rhubarb and blueberry were my favorites.

My friend and I were needing a little girl time to just hang out and talk. We wanted to have some wine and get out of the heat we had a few weeks ago and my mother in law had just told me about this place and said you should really check it out...so we did!!

It was such a fun atmosphere and just felt very comfortable there! Loved the decor and all the fun details put into their tasting room!

I had never heard of mead wine, so I didn't even know what it was. It was fun talking with them there about it and learning of it...but better yet, tasting it! I don't know if I had a favorite one or not they all were great!! And really not too sweet! But I guess I did have a favorite red wine blend cause I did leave with a bottle of their Airship red blend!

Definitely will be coming back again for when I want to have a glass of wine and have some girl time with friends!! Highly recommend...

Mead can be "too sweet" but that's not a problem we ran into at Contrivance; our favorite ended up being the blueberry mead, and I liked both the red blend and the Syrah wine offerings. We took a bottle of Syrah and the blueberry mead home, and I'm looking forward to the blueberry pancake inspired mead that's coming soon. Contrivance is closed today (Monday) but they're open Tuesday-Saturday from 12-6. The vibe is perfect for after work drinks and the matinee crowd, the interior styled with warm copper and verdigris teals, handmade furniture and Edison bulb ambient lighting. For sure do the full flight tasting starting with the wine menu. There is no growler system at this location yet, take home some bottles and help a new winery grow!
