I can honestly say that this business deserves a zero star for service and poor quality in food. I recently sent an email a couple of weeks ago because of my bad experience and it nobody has gotten back to me and I didn’t want to have to make this public but, here we go. So, my wife and I recently went to this location to watch Deadpool and Wolverine and I spent a decent amount a money as I usually do at Alamo drafthouse because I love this place. I came all the way from New Braunfels to see this movie. We ordered a pizza, popcorn, soda, and a couple of alcoholic beverage’s. So with that being said I got my beverage which was good and my soda, the odd thing began when they brought me the bowl of popcorn. The bowl at the bottom had a greasy texture and smelled but from the looks of it, it may have been stacked with other popcorn bowls and just not washed correctly. Aside from that the popcorn we got was cold and the butter was super thick and was hard to consume. Truly, I was surprised because i have never had bad popcorn before. We ordered pizza and it wasn’t even warm, it was surprisingly cold and the dough was still a bit raw at the bottom. Aside from that I requested a refill twice and the waiter didn’t bother to get my refill til about 40 minutes later and didn’t even bother to rectify the situation or at least work it out. He saw I was getting frustrated and brought it out to me once I began hitting the call button more than once to get his attention. Please keep in mind that we’re already an hour or more so into this movie and the theater wasn’t busy at this point in time. I will say this I’m all for tipping and being generous but the level of crap service from the waiter is insulting and that a automatic tip is included just for me to get crap service is beyond insulting and flat disrespectful for the type of work I do because I work hard for my money just for some careless waiter to take a tip automatically knowing he didn’t deserve it the way I was treated. All in all I’m super disappointed in how this was all handled. I use to have an account and have always been a fan of Alamo. So for management or at least anyone to get back to me is quite frankly unprofessional and extremely disappointing. I work too hard for my money to be disrespected in this matter and the fact that this particular location is my go to when I go to Austin and love to take my wife to is insulting quite frankly. I will never...
Read moreWarning, old man yelling at clouds review incoming! Unfortunately, Alamo has gone way downhill. I grew up here, and it makes me sad. It used to be a lot better. But what else is new, man? Everything is getting a little worse all the time. But man, Alamo used to be so great. Like really exceptional. Now it's a bummer, and I only go there because it's slightly better than a chain theater. What an endorsement! I'm gonna keep this honest, so I'll start with the good.
GOOD no talking/texting policy fewer corporate ads some fraction of their showings are non-current releases (classics, cult films, etc)
Those points make it so I come back. On to the bad.
BAD Expensive, mediocre food. I finally had to stop ordering things here because the disappointment of it arriving and being tiny / slightly warm / overpriced was affecting the movie experience. I just think of Alamo as a normal theater now, I ignore the food. The order from your seat anytime thing doesn't work well anymore. You see your server once and if you're lucky they might notice you again like an hour later. You used to be able to get a milkshake or cookies or whatever halfway through the movie, and now it just doesn't reliably happen. Not the servers fault, they are probably spread too thin. Don't bother getting a "bottomless" popcorn ($13) or soda ($8) because you might not have the opportunity to get a refill. seats are uncomfortable. I feel like I have been hit by a car after sitting in those "recliners." The angles are just... wrong projection quality is mediocre. Even in the "BARCO" hd theater. It's flat and dim and unsaturated. I watch movies on a laptop at home, and for $18 I'm expecting to have at least that level of picture quality.
IDK man. It's just a bummer. I guess I'll keep going back

Read moreI walked in as the opening credits were rolling and was asked to leave because the movie had “already started.” I understand that this is Alamo policy, but the film itself had not actually started. Plus, it was a shorts program so I could have easily gone in in between films and been far less disruptive than someone going to the bathroom, the endless trips by waitstaff navigating through the aisles, stage whispering, and generally attempting to run a restaurant while a movie is playing in the background, or, god forbid, the person next to you crunching on nachos, a giant salad, or one of the equally loud menu options. Who’s to say I wasn’t just returning from a bathroom break during the trailers anyway?
I only go to Alamo these days for special events or when the film isn’t playing anywhere else because tickets are costly and their big sell, the menu, is full of low-quality frozen food at premium prices. Their latest menu update removed two of the four vegan items, and what’s left is inconsistent—sometimes you get a ketchup cup or pickle with your meal, but not always! The built-in tip makes me feel guilty when I don’t buy something to support their underpaid servers. Not that they seem to care, or they’d let you in late.
The relaunched rewards program (after four years without one) is poorly explained, but I believe that once you’ve earned the lower levels that’s it if you’re not an extremely frequent visitor. It hasn’t reset at any point in my experience. Season pass doesn’t include the “convenience fee,” so it actually costs more the more movies you see. Premium formats aren’t included. I switched to A-List years ago, no regrets.
Love the lobby redesign though, it’s really impressive even though there’s less space to congregate now. They now have individual “desks” that you can easily reach instead of those horrendous row-long tables. Movie parties are always fun and the hosts do...
