We stopped by Gibson Street Bar during their Twisted Carnival celebration where they transformed into, well, a twisted carnival. They typically do this for certain holidays throughout the year, which is very cool. Decorations were strewn throughout the bar giving it a spooky vibe. Everyone was in costume and the place was packed with some good energy; definitely the place to put you in the spirit of the season. They also have a second floor if the open area downstairs gets just a bit too hectic for you.
Some things we did notice were that it’s incredibly hard to find parking in the area. That part isn’t really on the bar, more so the area it’s in, but still important to notice. The place was also PACKED. While they do offer seating, it is very hard to come by and you have to essentially hawk over benches hoping someone will move. Lastly, the drinks were very expensive. This could be a symptom of it being a holiday celebration and having things like that just cost more, but it was still a hole in the wallet for those getting multiple drinks. We will say the drinks are good though so it does offset the price a bit. They also had a Photo Booth, which was cool, but you can’t see where you are in relation to the photo being taken so that makes it a bit tricky to use.
We’re not down on South Lamar all too often, but for events like this we definitely will be. The setting was great, drinks were good, and vibes were high. Nothing much more you can ask for, or get in a bar. We will be back in the future for any holiday celebrations they might...
Read moreThis bar was much cooler and laid back than I thought it would be! I love the decor and the atmosphere. The drinks were reasonably priced, even the specialty cocktails were only around $5 each. Love the back deck, too. The one thing I did not like was what we ordered from the food trailer that sits right out front. I think it's called Luke's Inside Out but I'm not 100% positive. We were just looking for something to snack on and their chili cheese fries sounded good so we went and ordered. They brought them out pretty quickly and they weren't at all what I expected (I guess I'm used to Jackalope and Casino El Camino's chili cheese fries): it was actually chile (big difference, should have been stated on the menu) mixed into cheese which would have been fine had it not tasted like Cheez-Whiz or something equally unappealing. I would go back to Gibson but would hesitate to order from the food truck again without getting descriptions of the food from the...
Read moreDrinks and service are fine. Buuuttt... here's the thing, they offer food at a food stand outside the establishment. My friend and I left the bar to go order food, and even told the door man we would be back! After having 3 drinks each, on our way BACK IN, (after we were served drinks) they didnt let my friend back in. Which I would understand....BUT mt friend was let in at 8 oclock, without being IDed, had a tab going at the bar when we left to order food and then denied entry when we tried to come back in...with a half a beer left and a running tab my friend was waiting on the street all because they didn't have an ID. Now I understand why they needed to be IDed but seriously if you have 3 beers on a tab and aren't allowed in its kind of messed up. Not to mention the two bar tender's that served us watch this all happen. Either ID from the getgo, or let people who ordered food back in. Work on your management and get rid of the long...
