I had an eye exam done here for contacts and glasses and everyone was very nice, they practiced stringent social distancing and provided me with a box to put glasses I tried on in so they could be disinfected before being put back on the display. The doctor was very nice and thorough with the exam, I was in and out within 15 minutes. I ordered 2 pair of glasses and signed up for their 3 year membership which allows unlimited eye exams for 3 years for only $99.
Since I bought the glasses on the same day as my exam, I received a 10% discount and because I signed up for the 3 year membership I received an additional 10% discount, so out the door I paid just $200 for 2 pair of glasses, an eye exam and the unlimited 3 year membership. They ordered my glasses and also had to order my contact samples and said my glasses would be ready in about 2 weeks. Due to COVID their shipping time was a bit longer than usual and actually took 3 wks but the sample contacts were available in 1 week, I just waited until my glasses arrived to pick them all up together.
The glasses range from very basic “2 pair for $69.95” to all the major brand names and they also have a website for online ordering. I actually used Walgreens.com to order contacts using the paper prescription from the exam and saved a ton of money versus buying them there but that’s typical. Online you can use coupon codes and even buy contacts without a prescription, which I’d been doing for years, from the UK. Luckily, I came in for an exam because I found out that I’d been wearing glasses and contacts from an expired prescription that were actually too strong. The doctor changed my prescription from -2.75 to -2.50 and it made a HUGE difference and I’m very happy with my improved site. In addition, he let me know that I had an astigmatism and showed me the difference in my vision with and without contacts specifically for astigmatism and although I definitely would have benefited from the contacts for astigmatism, they’re much more expensive (in every brand) and so he allowed me to stay with the regular ones which I thought was super kind of him. I didn’t even have to explain my financial situation, he totally understood and let me know that he could change it in the future if I changed my mind.
Of the 2 pair of glasses I bought, one was from the cheapest section and is actually my favorite pair I’ve ever had. They’re really well made and even the basic lenses without any upgrades are great. I highly recommend this business, it was by far the cheapest place for an eye exam in Austin and turned out to be excellent experience.
**I actually returned to see the doctor a month later to see if he could write me a prescription for some allergy eye drops since I’d been paying $25 for a tiny bottle of Pataday over the counter. The visit was covered in the $99 membership and he was able to prescribe eye drops for my allergy dumps as well as Restasis for the dryness and using my prescription insurance coverage, I paid $1.50 and $3.80 for the prescriptions at...
Read moreBefore my appointment I called and spoke to someone at the store inquiring about the two pairs of glasses for 69.95 with free eye exam and informed them that I wanted to be fitted for contacts as well. I wanted to know what was the additional cost and was informed it would be around $30 extra. When I asked the woman who did my measurements before I saw the optometrist I was informed the same. After the eye exam when I say with Ashley (who was very sweet and helpful) I was quoted a different price. I was a little confused and asked for clarification and she asked the manager Rex Mueller to assist me. He explained different exams to me and tried to sell me the eye protection package for an additional $10. I was quoted several different prices so I asked for further clarification. Rex became a little irritated and was rude with his tone as well as his body language like it was too much to assist me or he was irritated that I didn’t get it. When I stated that he could drop the attitude because I was trying to get clarification on prices as I wanted to stay within a certain budget his response was “I’m just trying to explain why you you be better off with the protection plan”. Not one apology came from him and at some point he walked away. The manner in which he handled me in an open setting where everyone else in the store could see and hear was not only inappropriate but unprofessional. At that point had I not already gotten the exam I would have just walked out and even considered just paying for the exam and getting my eye glasses from somewhere else. The only thing that kept me at the store was Ashley’s sweet temperament and the fact that after YOUR STORE MANAGER REX walked away was the fact that Ashley still took her time to help me pick out glasses as well as explained all the questions I had as well as plans being offered. He does not need to be a store manager and I will never receive service at ANY AMERICAS BEST LOCATION AGAIN. Please let you store manager know that it takes patience to assist someone who is asking for clarification. I work in the medical industry and would NEVER treat any of my patients the way I was handled today. I’m sure this location is thriving because people need eyewear but people should also be handled with dignity and respect. Body language is everything as he stood there combative with his arms crossed. Hopefully no one else is treated this way but I’m also leaving a google review as well as on other social media platforms to let people know to NOT go to this location if they wanted to be treated with respect by the MANAGEMENT that runs the store. A practice is ONLY AS GOOD AS THEIR LEADERSHIP and as STRONG AS THEIR WEAKEST MEMBER. REX MUELLER is the weakest link and not fit to be...
Read moreMy recent visit had some highs and lows. Scheduling the appointment over the phone was smooth and straightforward, which I appreciated. However, once I arrived for my exam, the experience began to feel a bit off. The wait time was too long. For I don't understand when the appointment was made weeks ago and she told me that the appoitment book was wide open.
When I finally sat down with the eye doctor, the exam felt rushed. He moved through the lens options so quickly that I struggled to make clear, accurate choices. It didn’t feel like there was space to ask questions or be heard.
At the end of the exam, the doctor offered me a sample pair of contact lenses and a box of solution, both of which he had in hand. I initially declined the solution, but changed my mind during checkout and asked for it. I was told it was out of stock. This was confusing, since the doctor had literally just offered it to me moments earlier. I also experienced a long delay at checkout, which the staff member acknowledged with an apology—though her tone felt more irritated than courteous.
When I mentioned that the doctor had just had the solution in hand, she went to check with him and returned—visibly frustrated—repeating that there was none available. There was no further explanation, no apology, and no sense of concern for the mix-up. I was the only customer in the store at the time, which made the situation feel even more dismissive and unnecessary.
Unfortunately, this lack of professionalism and customer care left me feeling undervalued and disappointed. I’ll return only to pick up my contacts that were ordered, but moving forward, I’ll be looking for a provider who offers both efficiency and respectful,...
