Lady Bird Lake (formerly Town Lake) is located just to the south of downtown Austin. This reservoir was constructed in 1960 and is now named after the Former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson (1912-2007). It is roughly 168 hectare body of water mostly made up of the Colorado River as well as a section of Barton Springs.
The lake is a very popular recreational spot for Austin residents and visitors. There is an easy to follow 10 mile circular route that encircles the lake from MoPac (west) to Pleasant Valley Road (east) as well as a handful of designated parks to enjoy along its shores.
You'll find nice forested areas with mature trees. The wild flowers around the lake in spring are nice to see as well. Some good birdlife if you keep your eyes open, lots of fish that you can spot easily in the lakes clear waters.
