January 2024: The Texas Science & Natural History Museum underwent a top-down renovation and a name change. In support of museums I decided to pre-purchase a membership before visiting. I had been here before but had been a couple of years when it was called the Texas Memorial Museum. The entrance looked the same but a bit freshened up, and the inside was still impressive with its 1930’s Art Deco architecture. The museum is very nice with new displays and lighting. I was glad they kept the original displays cases made out of wood which gives the place that Indiana Jones character. There are many items on display dating back to prehistoric times. You will find dinosaur bones, meteorites, taxidermy collection of animals from all over Texas, and a museum store. They do not have a cafe here. You can park next door in the San Jacinto parking garage next to it. It is not a huge museum but a great place to bring kids to.

While it felt small, there's a lot here to explore. The main floor contains with most of the educational items with touch screen displays and interactive content, and the main lobby holds a massive queztlcoatlus fossil suspended from the ceiling along with a large Tyrannosaurus rex. The lower floor contains most of the fossils - because of course it does. The third floor is taxidermied local Texas wifelife, everything from butterflies and snakes, to coyote and buffalo. The 4th floor is expected to open next spring (2024). I spent a good two hours with my kids, doing my best to provide context, content and history about most things, but there's only so much I can remember. :) My kids really seemed to enjoy themselves, and the "snow" outside was a nice treat! $10 adults, $6 kids over 5. Spare some coin for the gift shop.

Our son loves dinosaurs, so we had visited back during the grand opening. He loved it, so he when his Grandma was visiting he wanted to go back and show her around. Staff was very attentive and friendly, answering questions and even snapping a few photos for us. The museum itself has a nice collection of fossils and facts in 4 floors. You can either walk up stairs or use the elevator found on each floor. It's a good size, but look to spend about 45 minutes to view the entire museum. The gift shop is very cool and has things all ages would enjoy. The coolest part was on the 1st floor, which contains a large Mosasaurus fossil found in Onion Creek here in Texas. This second visit they had added a few more items and signage mentioned they'll continue to add to it. A cool little weekend activity for the family for sure!

Loved it. So much and so little! We have young toddlers and this to us 2 goes to complete... Which, in my opinion, is perfect for young kids.it's not over whelming and just pleasantly spaced and displayed Tip for new parents: the entrance Hall is full of gems and rocks/stones, my kids couldn't see some of it and were disinterested so I took out my.phone and used it like a magnifying glass to talk about colors and texture while in and out (check pics). Took us 20 mins just to get thru the first room! And we also circled around the paleontology gallery three times, noticing something new every time.
