Ignored! You should know they are grossly understaffed and backlogged and will not respond to messages sent to your medical provider through the portal. If you are forced to call the office to get a response, you may end up talking with Angela (office manager?) who will cop a shockingly aggressive and haughty attitude, as if it is unreasonable to ask your doctor for help via the patient portal and expect a response within a month.
We are try to avoid having a bill from LabCorp being sent to collections because of a coding error in the lab order sent by the nurse practioner. What should be covered by Medicare is costing us $480 (which we don't have). How do I know it was a coding error? Because those exact lab tests had previously been ordered properly by the physician and paid by Medicare. LabCorp told me the order was coded in a way that Medicare would not pay and to contact our provider.
At least a month ago, I sent a message to the nurse practioner requesting help with a lab order that was miscoded. After several weeks with no response, I sent another message (to the physician this time) which was also ignored. Now desperate, today I called the office to see if I could talk to someone who could help. That's when I talked to Angela who was indignantly defensive, and she told me I needed to understand they were understaffed and had way too many portal messages to respond to. It was as if I was being unreasonable. Perhaps it would be unreasonable if I had been waiting for a response for only a day or two, but that is far from the situation.
After a bit of arguing, Angela said they would redo the order, but if Medicare denied it again, it wasn't their problem. I explained that if they coded the order as they had previously for the exact same tests, it would be paid by Medicare because Medicare paid for them before.
Aside from them assuming no responsibility for the error, not offering an apology, and lacking anything resembling kindness, the part that hurts the most is being ignored. At first I thought it might be personal, like maybe they didn't like us. But after today's conversation with Angela, it was clear they treat everyone this way. No doctor's office should neglect patients using the method of communication they are told to use if they need help. And most certainly they shouldn't be scolded for stating how it feels when no one responds to messages.
Angela represented Village Medical in the most unprofessional and disrespectful manner. Sadly, it seems her attitude accurately represents this office. They used to provide good service and we trusted the doctor, but no more. If no one is home when you use the portal system they provide, and they dismiss you with an attitude when you're so desperate you have to call, it doesn't matter how good the doctor is. You are abandoned. I told Angela it was extremely helpful to know "they are understaffed and backlogged." So, from Angela's sassy mouth to your ears, heed...
Read moreMy wife and I our new to the Austin area. We both found great jobs here in Austin. Retirement is great but working again feels great.
With a new job comes new medical coverage. My wife and I prefer "female" doctors.
Over the years, I have learned female doctors tend too listen to their patients. The male doctors I have had in the past were good but sometimes failed, in my opinion, when it came to my needs.
I checked the local area and came across Dr. Erica Swegler. Dr. Swegler's reviews were great and Villiage Medical appeared to be a great place to go for medical services.
I had my first visit last week. I was greeted with a smile by receptionist "Angel." I was early and eager to meet my new doctor.
The atmosphere was pleasant and the office had a positive vibe. Dr. Swegler was awesome. Dr. Swegler had me do blood work and scheduled me a physical.
I had my blood drawn by "Autumn." In the past everything blood has been taken from me it has been a problem.
"We can't find your vein." "You must be dehydrated." I normally get poked numerous times before blood is drawn. I warned Autmn she might have issues drawing my blood.
Autumn assured me she would have no problems. Autumn advised me she has drawn blood for over 20 years. Wow an OG.
"OG" (Slang for someone who knows what their doing. A shot caller).
Autumn took blood from me with no issues. I was shocked. I couldn't believe she was able to draw blood from me on her first try. I think I was caught off guard by Autumn's beautiful eyes.
Just stunning. Moving on. My experience at Villiage Medical was outstanding. Dr. Swegler and her staff are great. I felt my doctor and her staff really cared.
You just don't get that type of service anymore. People are not humble and kind to each other.
If your looking for a great doctor and a friendly environment, definitely try this clinic out. You will experience first hand how a medical practice is supposed to be run.
Again, this is my opinion. Have a great day and remember to take care of yourself..
Oh I almost forgot. Dr. Swegler is a diehard Cowboys fan. The Cowboys have always been "America's" team.
Dr. Swegler knows her football. That's definitely a plus in my book. Of course, I had to remind Dr. Swegler the Raiders beat the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day (2021). The day Dak choked on a turkey bone:). Classic.
To my awesome doctor. "Go Raiders....
Read moreWhile the providers and staff are nice this place is so difficult to work with. Their call center method and receiving a call back from the office is terrible and always has been. If you're not in a rush to see your doctor and just need an annual visit booked out it's fine. But if you have acute issues you're better off going to the ER by the time you get a callback from this office.
I called Tuesday because I have a severe sore throat. My old dr would either get me in same day or call in antibiotics. Sadly she retired so here I am. They offered me an appointment in September. I told them that's too long so I asked for antibiotics. They said someone would get back to me and they would mark my case "urgent". Side note..."urgent" means someone will get back to you within 48 hours!!!
Needless to say I did not receive a call back on Tuesday so I called again at 830 Wednesday am and they said there was a note on my chart to do a nurses visit (yet no one had called to tell me). So I made the appointment for that day so I could get tested. They did a strep and covid test and said they would call me. Here it is Thursday and still no phone call and no results. Still no medication either. I had to call again myself and got another inexperienced person in the call center. The call took 10 minutes just to see if my results were in. I knew they were because I work in the medical field and it takes 15 minutes to get those results after being swabbed, but yet I still have to call and find out! The guy on the phone first pulls up the wrong person despite telling him my name and dob and provided wrong information so I had to give him my information again!!!
End of story....my results are in but I can't get them until they call me or send them to the portal ( which they have not as of yet). And the phone representative said they would give me my results in 24-48 hours!! So another day of not knowing the results of a covid and strep test that literally takes 15 minutes!!
Sorry but this is horrible service. I was better off going to an urgent care that would've given me results on the spot. It would have cost me double but I would've had results 2 days ago when my symptoms started and not had to go thru all of this. I feel sorry for people who are older and sicker than me because if this is what you call Healthcare, I beg to differ. This is NOT what you call...
