I love libraries, but the Pratt library has always been a cut above. They are one of the oldest free lending libraries in the country. I love that they retain older books rather than culling their collection constantly (like most of the county libraries). You can get titles from them that aren't even in the county system. Every branch I have ever been to, no matter where it is in Baltimore City, is staffed with warm, knowledgeable people who clearly love books. This branch is right near Patterson Park. The building is older, and many of the beautiful features of the architecture have been carefully preserved while still ensuring that the library itself is comfortable and has modern amenities. I went with my child for a craft project. The enthusiasm and warmth of the supervising staff was delightful. In an age where many libraries are losing funding, even as they become de facto day shelters and community resource centers, it is so heartening to see the Pratt flourishing as a place of learning, reading, and exploration.
