One of Baltimore's many beautiful public parks, the rolling hills and broad meadows of Patterson Park offer more than 5 miles of tree-lined, paved trails for walking, cycling, and jogging. During the sometimes steamy Baltimore summer, you might find the large public swimming pool busy with people from all walks of life--or rehearsal for performance troupe Fluid Movement's annual water ballet. Local little league teams might be practicing on a nearby permanent diamond. And while some visitors bring hammocks to swing in the cool shade of the trees, others are in nearby fields tossing a baseball or football around, while another field provides the perfect space for an impromptu volleyball court. Strolling through the park, you might spot a young couple snuggling while they enjoy a picnic brought from home, a medical student on a bench studying a textbook, or several half-dressed young people sunning out on the lawns. In the northwest corner of the park, there is is a lovely, decorative pagoda at the top of a hill which becomes the perfect launch pad for kites during the windy spring, the starting point for Creative Alliance's annual Halloween Lantern Parade, and the perfect slope for sledding in the winter. The Park's proximity to the Spanish-speaking communities in the Highlandtown neighborhood also makes it the perfect location for Baltimore's annual Latinx Festival, celebrating the food, music, art and culture of diverse immigrant communities that help make Baltimore a culturally rich place to live. And along Eastern Avenue on the park's south border are small shops, restaurants, and cafés (as well as the occasional cart vendor) to keep visitors refreshed year-round. If you seek recreation, relaxation, people watching, or just a verdant escape from city streets, you will find what you seek in...
Read morePatterson Park is a staple in Baltimore Maryland. It's historical and ran by the Patterson Park Committee (PPC). It has a Pagoda and a beautiful small man made lake. Not for swimming only 🎏 are only allowed...smiles. History on lake. Some 20 years ago some person or persons put in Japanese poisoning fish, not allowed in the USA Although they were taken out the lake inevitably it had to be drained. It took some time to get it back to what it was. They (PPC) have not only restored it, they went beyond expectations. It has an iron fence arround the lake. Fish are plentiful and the surrounding area it's set with beautiful flowers and trees. It's quite lovely. There is a public pool with a very inexpensive charge with showers. It's ran with a high amount of respect for one to another. The Virginia Dare building sits historical all by itself with a plaque telling her historical functions of Baltimore MD. It has tennis courts (2). They are mostly available during the week. Last time I visited, where I was born) those courts weren't available due a high volume of players. They are lovely courts. Lots of fun. There are baseball/soft ball and basketball area's. This park is definitely family friendly. Oh also there is a kids area with slides, swings and monkey bars. If ever you visit or residents of have Maryland have never been, definitely check it out it's worth going. Filled with history and family fun. Lot's of places for picnic's. Hope this shine's a light to you...
