Cute little store in a residential area about a 5-minute walk from the top of Patterson park. We stopped on a Saturday afternoon. There were a few people eating outside and no one inside (honestly I don't recall a lot of indoor seating). The gentlemen helping us was very friendly and talkative and helpful in explaining options and what was in them. There was a reasonable (for the end of the day) but small selection of pies available. Small mini-pies $5 and slightly larger savory pies $10. We ordered a mix and took them to go. Far and away, the lemon custard was the favorite of our group as it had a strong tart lemon flavor. The peach pie had a lot of ripe and fresh peaches that were delicious. We happen to be crust snobs and love a good flaky buttery crust, and that is not what was on any of the 4-types of pies we had. The mini-pie crusts were unremarkable standard fare, and while the peach pie crust was clearly homemade it was thin and not flaky. So, depending on your crust preference, that may be good/ bad. Read moreOk my 2nd time coming in here and it's AMAZING! I was talking to a guy in front of me that just moved to the neighborhood...(I don't like here) but he was talking about how friendly everyone is Here and we all just had such a nice human exchange. The kind you wish you had every single day. Everytime I come in here I get that feeling. I spent $70 on pie lol and ya know what I am so happy do so because the owner Max is so nice and his staff are so friendly. People put their heart into places like this. So before u write any nasty comments remember that this is a literal local small business and if I'm being honest the pies are REALLY freaking good like gourmet. I have had the other pie place I forget what it's called and this place has better pies even if it's more expensive or whatever anyone else wants to say. The heart is here and they don't just serve up pie they serve...
Read moreThe drip coffee is great - not weak, and at the same time, not too bitter. Definitely in my top five in Baltimore.
As for the pie, I tried the apple and the vegan black bean chili pies. The apple had some nicely layered apples and a pretty good flavor, but nothing particularly memorable.
The vegan black bean chili pie though was fantastic. The herbed crust, the combination of perfectly cooked beans with creamy potato pieces, and a lovely level of spice was perfect. There was a lot of crust, but The crust was so well-seasoned that it wasn’t a problem! My only criticism is that they do not have the option of heating up the pie in the coffee shop - as good as the pie was cold, it wouldn’t have suffered from some time in the microwave or toaster oven.
Overall, great place. Will come back to try other pies. Or maybe just to taste that amazing black bean...
