This was my first time visiting this area. The historic train depot was cool with a lot of interesting historic facts I never knew about. The staff were friendly. The first floor showcased the mardi gras costumes, famous Black blues singers, the Spanish trail, the history of Mississippi from the 1700s through to hurricane Katrina. I liked how everything was displayed. The second floor was the artwork of Alice Moseley, whom I had never heard of before. The artwork was nice and showed the life and times through her eyes. However, I was triggered by a couple of the pieces, and I don't get triggered easily. Again, I understand it was history and the times she was living in. However, seeing the Grim Reaper chasing black people with his scythe in the field in one painting and an older white lady sitting in a rocking chair while three young black kids fanned her (who I assume was Alice herself) in another painting, were very triggering and I felt them to be disturbing, distasteful and disheartening to be hanging up and displayed...almost glorifying it. I didn't get pictures of those as I was in shock, I suppose. After that, I wanted to leave Mississippi all together. However, I stayed and explored the next town over. Overall, the depot itself was a...

The Mardi gras theme of the old train depot really saddened me! 😢 It's an old hysterical building that has been there for many years. Even when that road was just dust and dirt. I miss the old train theme that goes with the old train station! They used to have all the old hardwood floors, the old seats where people would sit waiting on their train. The ticket counter is now gone. There is only one bench that remains in the old train depot. I believe keeping it as it was years ago would make more sense than turning it into a modern Mardi gras museum. Oh my that's so sad to see such a wonderful part of history become something it should not be. Please, turn it back to its original beauty. A Mardi gras museum could be placed anywhere in town !...

We showed up late around closing, but we still were welcomed and shown around the museum. It was full of costumes and explained the reasons why they have parade and the beads and dablooms of Mardi Grau. They are very elaborate and I loved the displays. The bad was that I was in a rv and a spare car. This museum is tucked away in a neaborhood that is very tight for pulling a 31 ft rv trailer. So I parked on the side of the road a few miles from the museum and rode into the neaborhood to get to see it. Also do your best to find higher than normal rail road crossing.... I was not able to cross a few and backing up was not fun and could...

The old building was neat to check out and looking at the old rail waiting area that for whatever reason Amtrak is not going to use but put a sign on. The lady working the museum greeted us and then retreated to her office to check her phone but that was fine with us. Some neat costumes for Mardi Gras and a large-headed Pete Fountain, jazz clarinet player from New Orleans is in the main waiting area. A back room has some information on the old train station as well as information on nearby Stennis Space Center. After looking about we headed upstairs to the Alice Moseley museum.

First floor is a Mardi Gras museum and history of the local area, to include some trains. Upstairs is dedicated to the art of Alice Moseley, which is a freaking delight. The employees were very friendly and helpful and just a freaking delight. Museums are free, but you can do donations downstairs and purchase prints of the art upstairs. I highly suggest anyone in the area come here for a visit. Amazing.
