From check-in to checkout, The Pearl was fantastic! We were part of a wedding group that only had a group rate for Friday and Saturday nights and only had queen balconies for the wedding rate, so we booked a king waterfront view balcony for Thursday night and then planned to switch rooms for the other two nights (I was told when I booked months prior that they would move our luggage between the rooms for us; we could do that ourselves, but it was a nice offer), but ever so friendly Sarah said, "Do you want to staying the king balcony all three nights?"||I responded, "For the price we already reserved or for an upcharge? I believe we already paid for the first two nights."||She said, "To make it easier for you and us, let me go ahead and give you the same rate you already had."||And the room was nice and the balcony was HUGE for a hotel balcony and I used it late at night to watch the stars each night and to read in my swimsuit before the wedding (as the pool was closed for maintenance). We also got a free parking spot just in front of our balcony and never moved the car until we checked out and left town, so saved the $20/night hotel parking fee.||Our room number was 417 and honestly probably the best room in the hotel as it was top floor (as I requested as I wake up when people walk above me at hotels), close to the ice machine and elevator but not so close as to hear either from inside the room, had privacy fencing that allowed for me to lay on the lounge chair without burning up in the sun (I didn't realize it would be so warm while we were there and didn't pack sunscreen) where the rooms to our right and at the corner had no sun shading from the side, and a view of the whole street in addition to the harbor. Fantastic!||The front desk manager Sophia sat right next to me at the hotel bar on the night of our first stay and we had some good laughs. The bartender Taylor fixed good cocktails (used cute little pumpkin and maple toothpicks for them, too).||I can't speak to the restaurants really as we went into both the formal dining room (which smelled delicious) and the breakfast and lunch little cafe and neither really catered to a vegan diet (thankfully, other restaurants on the street made good vegan meals for me even though none were on their menu, so I am glad I always ask).||This hotel is also very nicely located with regards to the town's cute shops and restaurants. We walked easily to everything (and could have walked to the church for the wedding but there were shuttles and I was in heels, so only walked to it the day prior to check it out; it is a beautiful church inside, FYI, and walking the town and surrounding neighborhood is pleasant).||The bed was comfortable and the shower was huge, but the door for the bathroom blocks the shower exit (small thing, but hotels should try to avoid that), and I did miss there being no tub as I love to soak in a tub. But housekeeping did a great job and even left a thank you note for our tipping (it is also nice that this hotel had a notepad and pen as so many don't anymore).||The art work throughout the hotel fit the bay theme nicely and the bar was nicely decorated for the fall with fancy pumpkins and such.||The pool area is outdoors and looked very nice, especially when you consider that this hotel has less than 60 rooms. It had a few cabanas that looked inviting. The amenities for a hotel so small were impressive (separate bar, fancy restaurant, and café, though you had to go outside the hotel for all but the fancy restaurant).||The bed was comfortable, there was a safe, there was a ton of storage space (which isn't the case often anymore) including not just a closet and bunch of drawers but also a ton of cubby space (which came in handy for all of my shopping bags) and floor space for suitcases that was out of the way. There were a number of spots for working/reading...the balcony was my favorite, but there was also a nice lounge chair with table that slides out from it, a chair with another side table, and a desk. The TV was well located for viewing from the bed or sitting areas inside the room.||This hotel was only built three years ago and yet has very tall ceilings and a very spacious feel. I just can't say enough good things about the hotel itself and staff there. Keep up the great work, people! And THANKS for a wonderful extended...
Read moreThe BEST thing about this hotel is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! You can't beat it for the area. Simply park and forget you have a vehicle until checkout, as Everything you need is a quick walk away! Loved our stay, but the hotel could be better for the price. Our room was beautiful, pillows were great, bed comfy, loved having a mini fridge and microwave, Lots of storage between the drawers, large closet and large cubby holes! Bathroom was nice, but the shower Glass door was not kid friendly at all, and felt a little dangerous because it didn't stay closed, it kept sliding back and there is nothing to grab ahold of when trying to keep your balance in there! The kids had to sit down and shower because it was too slippery and I was afraid they'd fall into the glass door. Also, the AIR CONDITIONER was Terrible in room #305. Their chillers kept going out on our room and room 205 below us, so the room wouldn't get below 76 degrees even with it set on 68. We are use to 70 degrees to sleep, so we just couldn't sleep in 76. They quickly brought us a fan though, and sent maintenance over the next day, so very good service, but even after maintenance "fixed" the chiller, it still had trouble reaching 70, so we used the fan and it stayed at 72 the rest of the weekend. Guess that was better than 76, but no other hotel has ever been as hot for us as this one, so we were Not happy with the room temp after being outside in 95 degree temps all day at a festival nearby. đ€·ââïž The balcony was Great to overlook the boats at the harbor, train track and restaurants & bars. We even got to listen to live music happening across the street, right from our balcony, which was awesome since we had kids with us, so couldn't leave them to go out and enjoy the great Nightlife Bay St Louis has to offer! So, the balconies are an Amazing feature of this hotel, because the day and night life is great and you can enjoy it right from your room! The only problem is the balcony floor is plastic wood, and ours was wavy and uneven, and also creaked every time I stepped out the door. The furniture is also plastic, which is fine, but for the location, cost and "boutique" style of this place, I expected better Quality furnishings, better AC. Also, the countertop in bedroom area was very hard to keep clean looking, not a fan of that type of counter they used, felt and looked cheap. Even though the pool on 2nd floor was small (but cute), and the wood flooring surrounding pool was pretty, it really felt lightweight and it just seems as though nothing is Solid wood or well made (to last many years) over there. Looks very nice though! Lol đ€·ââïž I loved the bright blue color canopy beds that they had out there, and as HOT as it was outside, the pool was empty when we went in at 2pm! Only one woman was there sleeping on a lounge chair. Lol. The kids thought it was funny! She didn't stay sleeping long after we got in the pool though! Kids just can't swim quietly! đ€·ââïžđ All in all, you can't beat this Location, so YES I would stay at the Pearl again! I just don't see certain parts of their rooms and balconies, lasting long before it needs replacing, that's all. They really could have put more money into the Quality of some things. It's very pretty though, and the hospitality was Great! No issues with anyone there! They brought our bags up for us, and they were very friendly and very helpful! Definitely recommend this hotel, just warning that the AC may give you trouble and you may notice some things aren't made very well, so don't stay in #305. That is...
Read moreOverview: Clean rooms, mostly friendly staff service (except for one attendant who was rude), relaxing location, conveniently connected to a coffee/breakfast place, a bar, and a restaurant.
The Good: -Fantastic rate that we booked at the time (mid-April, less than $150/night, stayed for two nights) -Rooms were clean the hotel was mostly quiet -There was room service available from the three adjoining establishments mentioned above. -In Room temperature control worked well, it cooled the room well -Most of the staff was friendly, helpful, professional, kind, and speedy with any questions we asked or requests we had -The bathrooms, the elevators, the hallways⊠extremely clean. Loved that! -The happenings of the hotel and surrounding places is posted in the elevator in an itinerary style laminate. Very cool. -This may not sound like a big deal⊠but it is: the TV and remote both worked and made sense! -The location of the hotel is in walking distance of the beach, and bunch of fun restaurants and shops. It has a small town beach vibe to it⊠but that is the charm!
The Bad: -The rooms, though being nice, did have a bit of dilapidation on them. Not sure how, since the place is so new. -One person up front was particularly rude, and when we asked simple questions cut to the quick with rejections or with one-word answers without making eye contact. Typically if we asked another host, the answer was friendly and different, so not sure what this person was going through during our stay. -We booked our stay and were not informed that two days, the restaurant had been rented out for special events. This kept us from enjoying any of the cuisine there. -The reserved parking is around the corner in a gated lot, not connected to the hotel and not covered, so your vehicle will be exposed to the elements.
Overall, we loved our stay! Itâs a hidden gem. There are things that could have been a bit better - but overall a...
