My husband & I were very pleasantly surprised. We expected a nice place to stay; but, the elegance of the house was such a treat. Since we were the only ones staying there that evening, I was able to explore the entire house. A lot of love, patience, hard work & a talent for decorating went into this house. Our room was very comfortable & roomy as well. We slept quite well. Even the bath towels were wonderful (Egyptian cotton - the very best!).
Breakfast was another treat. We lacked nothing. I could not finish everything, so "doggie" bags were provided.
Another plus, is the feeling of being safe there at the Carroll House & Bay St. Louis. The Bay has always been a favorite place for my husband & me to visit & enjoy an excellent meal at many of the superb restaurants located there. We left MS due to severe losses caused by Katrina. We still have friends, property & our Dentist, so we come back a least twice a year. We only hope that the Carroll House will be available for us when we return.
For me, the shops are fun. Jane & Kevin's Bay-tique allowed me to find some very nice gifts for my friends back in East Texas. The gifts were a hit. Thank heavens!
This review is obviously written by a woman. Women are notorious for being verbose, rather than succinct. The bottom line is the Carroll House is such a nice place to stay. Hotels & motels just cannot compete with the ambiance of this house. It is definitely a home away from home! We truly...

Was first time in Bay St. Louis and imagine this house would be hard to beat. Is more of a "village" retreat than a beach house. The water is a 5 - 10 min walk down the street and around the corner. Location is great for restaurants, the few shops around and the waterfront. Even recommend a stroll through the old cemetery 10 mins away.
The place is clean, well appointed throughout, plenty of comfy seating, good beds and a full kitchen. There are some quirky appliances in the kitchen that needed a little attention when we were there, but overall great. Has a bit of an odd bath setup, with the two baths actually adjoining with a sliding door between. Enter the front bath from the bedroom and then walk on through to the second. There is another entrance to the second bath off the kitchen. Just a little odd. One of the surprises was a loft bedroom/hideaway. Would be a great place for a child or teenager, or just a place to escape to for reading and relaxing. You get there up a narrow, winding metal stair. Might be a little tight for some. Has wi-fi, TV, a gas fireplace, porches and a small back yard, but with the main house yard adjacent, seems plenty big. Definitely would recommend and would stay there again without bothering to look around. A very...
Read moreWe took a week long road trip around MS. Only booked ahead the night we arrived in town, which was at this B&B. All the others we made in the evening as we arrived. Once the week was over and we compared the various B&B's we stayed in, we realized this one was the most expensive and was not a great value.||Kevin met us when we arrived and was very nice and helpful. He recommended a good restaurant ( not a lot in town to choose from..) We only met Jane very briefly at breakfast as she had to leave to oversee a boutique she is opening.||We do not have a bath tub so I was looking forward to using the tub, but the plug was too small and would not keep the water in, the shower flow was poor, the rocking chair was stained so you could not sit on it , the TV remote did not work and when mentioned the next day they were already aware of it,the 2 pillow shams were dirty, the bed pillows were flat, had to move 2 pieces of furniture to get the lamp cords to reach, every where else we stayed bottled water was offered in the room or a fridge nearby, here they charge $1.00, though cookies were on the kitchen island for guests. ||Its not a bad place, its just that the costs does not match the...
