Had the absolute worst skiing experience of my life here this past week. My friends and I had COVID leading up to Christmas and were isolated and unable to go home for the holidays. Instead of getting each other presents we decided to plan a day trip to ski in big bear once we were over the virus. We are all avid skiers from Washington / Vermont. My 2 friends have their own equipment, but I rent while living here in CA. We purchased all-day tickets, parking pass and rentals for Dec 28. We left our home in San Diego no later than 7am as we were 2 hours and 40 min away. When we got to the mountain, parking was a total nightmare. We had reserved the resort parking and waited in line for the parking lot for over 2 hours. When we finally get to the front of the line we are told it is closed and to go park in town- completely disregarding our purchased spot. We asked where in town when the employee said Fox Farm and that we needed to move. So now we had to find this lot. When we get to Fox Farm it is also full. It is 1:30 at this point and half our ski day had been taken up. I called customer service to ask to switch our tix and was on hold for 50 min before I decided to hang up. While I was on hold with customer service we found a way to park in Fox Farm and waited for a shuttle to the mountain. 3 shuttles came within 30 min all for Snow Summit. When we told them we were waiting for Bear Mtn they said one would come soon. It never did, so when the fourth shuttle came we begged and pleaded and they finally took us to Bear. It is now 2pm and we have 2 hours left to ski. I went to pick up my rentals which I had reserved the adult standard. They were out of standard and gave me beginner skis, although this is not what I paid for. They did not have anything else. They tried not to give me poles, but I insisted they find some. They did not have a helmet for me although I reserved one for $10 so I did not feel comfortable going down blacks, so my friends and I stayed on the blue and greens despite being experienced skiers, because I did not want to risk injury. We added night skiing as an option to give ourselves more time to ski, but when purchasing this they failed to mention that only the other mountain was open for night skiing. So at 4pm after only skiing 3 short runs, we were not going to wait in the mile long shuttle line to get over to the other mountain, we were defeated, cold and just took the L on the whole entire day. On top of this, we were looking forward to getting hot coco, a beer and some food in the lodge, but didn’t want to waste anymore time not on the slopes, so we decided after our last run we would go to the lodge before heading over to the other mountain and thinking the line for the shuttle would get shorter too so we didn’t have to wait outside. Jokes on us because the lodge closes at exactly 4!!!! I wanted to go to guest services but surprise surprise they close at 4 too!!! This day was absolutely miserable and we all had a pit in our stomach for how much money we spent, that as students we barely had, just for this poorly managed mountain and less than 2 hours of skiing at no fault of our own. Since then I have tried to speak to someone to at least be refunded for the parking and rentals I did not get, but have been on hold for 5 hours and 40 min, an hour and a half and now have given up and will try again in the new year. In hind sight, our entire tickets should be refunded as we arrived in the city of Big Bear no later than 10:30 am and because of the employees and mismanagement were unable to ski more than 2 hours nor did not feel comfortable going down diamonds because I was not given a helmet. Unacceptable and incredibly disappointing. Management please, please contact me and...
Read more(from the date of 02/08/2021) Rarely do I ever leave horrible reviews, but with this one, I wish I could give no stars. All the employees I came in contact with, were all so very unprofessional. First off, I added parking to my ticket so my group and I could be right by the resort/lifts, as I was pulling up to the parking lot on site, the man who was directing traffic told me I couldn't park there and would have to park off-site and take a shuttle. I was a little annoyed since I did get the extra parking ticket to park on site. I parked at one of the off-site parking lots and we waited for the shuttle. Everything was fine until we got dropped off at the resort. Well, I have celiac disease, and other food allergies that refrain me from eating Big Bear's resorts food since I can end up in the hospital for eating gluten, wheat, ect. So I brought my own food since I have a lot of food restrictions from my disease. One of the girls who was working there saw my bag of snacks and foods and told me I wasn't allowed to bring any food whatsoever. I told her I have Celiac Disease and have many food restrictions that I cannot eat at their diner. She told she "sorry, that sucks, but I understand because I work in a celiac kitchen". I was astonished by her attitude and what she said to me. Was very rude and unprofessional. If you understood my disease, you would have tried to help accommodate me. They told me I wasn't even allowed to leave it in the lockers. She then pointed by their office and told me I could leave my bad UNATTENDED underneath the stairs. I'm sorry... What? I asked her then if you're going to make me leave my stuff outside, will you watch it? And she told me "no". So I had to get back on the shuttle to my car, while waiting for the next shuttle to take me BACK to my car after being denied entry for my food, another man told me "hey! If you want you want you can park here on-site right by the lifts!"... This was not even 30 minutes ago that previously I was denied entry to parking on the on-site lot. All of this took at least an hour and a half, and still didn't get to go into the resort yet, and left half of my group so they could go snowboarding while I dealt with my issue. After that whole issue. I was finally able to park my car up close and finally wait in line for the lift. When it was mine and my boyfriend's turn to scoot up to the line to sit in the chair, I was waved by a man to come to the line to get prepared to sit on the lift. All of a sudden he pushed my chest back with his hand and told me "no! Wait!" So I said "okay" and back up, but then immediately he grabs me again by the arm and tells me "okay now you can go" and was so confused because he actually grabbed me. Personally wasn't fond of that at all, and secondly, got separated with my boyfriend and ended up with some random guy on my lift chair and my boyfriend behind me on the other chair. I don't understand why all of these employees are unprofessional, but they are, and need to be trained a little better, and be better in the customer service area. I have never had anyone grabbed me like that before, nor had a girl talk back to me and talk down to me like that before. I just all in all, in shock this year with how everything was handled because of COVID. until things shape up, I'll keep the one star on here. For anyone who has any food restrictions or diseases that refrain you from eating or drinking their foods or can make you sick, steer clear! They will NOT ACCOMMODATE you! They...
Read moreLet’s start off with the location and slopes. Absolutely beautiful and fun, I had a blast. The one thing that ruined it all for my two day snowboarding trip was Hoss from the Summit Rental Shop. On the last second day at Snow Summit I had to get rental boots, bindings, and a board. I ended up paying a little extra for the standard Snow Summit snowboarding package, rather than the beginners package. After receiving boots I stood in line for 30 minutes to get my bindings and board. Your staff member with the name tag HOSS was the one to assist me, I told him I got the standard package, he said nothing and walked away to get my stuff. He brings over red burton bindings then grabs a beaten up blue burton board, I kid you not it was the worst board I’ve ever ridden, having massive scraps, and massive chips all over it. My friend was being assisted next to me, with him having the same Standard package. The staff member grabs him a baby blue arbor board that looked brand new, the second I saw that, before Hoss even put the bindings on, I asked him if I could have that one or something similar to the shape of that board. This guy with a doesn’t care attitude, didn’t move an inch looks left then right and says “No, I don’t have any of those”. Not even turning around to look at the boards behind him. I clearly saw at least 10 of the exact arbor boards in different sizes in the same stack his teammate had just pulled from for my buddy. This guy hoss didn’t want to assist me, thinking maybe I’ve never rented before and he’ll just give me a terrible board from 3-4 seasons ago that’s apart of the beginners package. Since I just wanted to ride, I took the board then asked the other rental shop if this was a beginners package board and he said “Yes”. This dude hoss is one of the rudest people on that mountain. I’ve been to Bear 3x’s and Mammoth once renting every time. Management should really look into this guy. For someone in customer service, he really does not want to provide service to his customers.
Warning to equipment renters, AVOID working with Hoss at Snow Summit rentals. Even though you pay extra for something he‘ll give you whatever he feels like and you’re stuck with it, even if you ask him for something different.
This place would of been 5 stars if it wasn’t for their staff...
