I'm sure my experience was not atypical of most Staples stores on Labor Day, but I felt the need to write about the lack of staff in this location, leading to a ridiculously long line to get to checkout (as well as next to zero help looking for needed items in the store aisles). After finally finding most of what I needed for my cousins who are about to start school like most other kids, I got online for checkout. The problem was the line ended at the cash register and started at the rear of the store, next to the stock room! I couldn't even see the cashiers from my vantage point. I was flabbergasted and gave a sarcastic chuckle when the manager informed me that, yes, this was where the line starts. After a minute I got a little angry and realized that no one at Staples respected me or my time, or the time of the countless other people stuck on this line who had better things to do like take care of their crying children or go to a BBQ with family and friends, or whatever one does when they're not forced to stand inline to pay for items to make the Staples corporation wealthier than they already are.
When I finally reached the cashier, my experience was friendly and actually somewhat enjoyable as he sensed that I was not a happy camper standing on such a long line. I picked up a few new items and wanted to exchange one of them for something I mistakenly bought earlier that day (when it wasn't so crowded!) The item I wanted to get for the exchange was sold out. A manager standing nearby overheard me and said he might have extras in the back. I thanked him profusely and told him I'll take whichever erasable pens (the items I needed) he could give me. While he was in the back, I spoke with the cashier and told him I just got off work trying to earn a few extra bucks on the holiday, just like him. He told me he had to work UNTIL MIDNIGHT. ON LABOR DAY! All I could do was shake my head and offer my sincere regrets. Well, I did get the erasable pens and made a successful exchange, so my long wait was not totally in vain.
I politely explained to the cashier that I was not upset with the store employees, but with the lack of staff available to help find what you needed and the clear lack of cashiers when Staples is busy creating back-to-school ads to lure people to their stores and offering Labor Day discounts as a further incentive. I get that it is a holiday; I also understand that it was the last minute to come and get needed school items. What I don't get is why Staples corporate doesn't allow their individual stores to be properly staffed to meet the needs of the customers it hopes will spend money in THEIR stores. This to me is the height of disrespect toward the customer. Staples value their customers' money but not their valuable time.
I would be remiss if I didn't admit that Staples isn't alone in this phenomenon; however, that does not make it right that they treat the public in this manner. The only reason this location received two stars from me was because of the polite customer service I received...
Read moreI usually come here for Amazon or UPS returns only but I stopped months ago because service or lack there of. I decided to come today on Sunday. I walked in to the Amazon drop off, noone is there. I patiently wait and another associate tells me the cashier will be with you in a minute. She has 2 costumers. Another customer comes from outside with plastic containers and walks in. I'm clearly there for 15 minutes already and the cashier takes her and start speaking in her language. I'm still patient but now I have an attitude. 2 more customers come up and she takes the next customer. Terrible service. So I say excuse me am I going to get assistance. The other associate that spoke to me when I initially walked in said sorry paying customers first. That should have been explained in the beginning....I would have been left. She decided to help out. She wasn't doing anything but straightening supplies...should have did it the first place. She took care of the Amazon return and gave the cashier the receipt to give to me. That made no sense. The cashier handed the receipt didn't say sorry, didn't explain anything just rude. I snatched the receipt. She said "You don't have to snatch the receipt". I said "Well, you were so rude, didn't even apologize." I had to return something to the UPS side so I walked to that side and salesperson was so nice and he was pleasant. He is the reason I gave 2 stars. The cashier needs customer service etiquette. I will stop going there like I did months ago. Not worth the...
