So as you guys know I recently explored a dying mall in Springfield called White Oaks Mall and a bunch of you in the comments told me I had to check out East Mall. I actually go here all the time to get my eyebrows done but I’ve never explored the whole building. Turns out I’m not missing much. There are so many closed down stores here it’s crazy. I would say it’s maybe running at about 50 percent occupancy and the food court is sad. When I tell you there’s only one restaurant open some Hispanic restaurant maybe I should go back and try that. I did see a new Christmas pop up that I definitely want to check out before I leave and they had a coffee shop on the inside. So maybe there’s still a little bit of life left in East Mall after all. #dyingmall #bloomington

subpar arcade, adequate game stop, unique goth shop, and average coffee are all available in one place. there is also a kids area to keep them entertained. not many maps posted so it is easy to get lost or turned around if you are not a regular that walks through the mall for your afternoon stroll. if anyone else misses Wacky Fun Time (see picture) and wants to start a protest or a petition, let me know, I'm down.

This is a decent mall really. I enjoy walking around it. Usually its not so packed you're overwhelmed. Pretty good food court and some interesting stores. Nice bathrooms. I really like FYE, Earthbound, the shoe store options... the picture is just something I always laugh about. It's the bathroom near the food court and the arms are amusingly tiny. I think of it as "aliens with capes" or "aliens without capes."

Some people have seen what has gone on over the years at the mall. The management has raised rent prices so many times that many stores have been forced to leave and the mall is slowly but surely dying. The structure itself needs some overhaul but as far as the stores that are there and stick out the rent issues they do pretty nice business and have decent prices. The security for the mall goes through phases where they are good at what they do and sometimes they get some bad apples who are horrible human beings. Don't judge the collective based on the actions of a few bad ones. At least Eastland Mall hasn't gone the route of College Hills Mall .... Yet. If there is even one or two stores there that you like them do them the favor of taking your business there. If you have an "issue" then go to information desk and fill out a complaint form. Help the mall survive so we can have something...

Eastland Mall is essentially a cautionary tale for the end of brick and mortar capitalism. It actually boasts a surprising number of stores, I think it's officially back above 50% occupancy now, and the food court is surprisingly good - I recommend all three of the places down there. However, the remainder of the mall has a strong Dawn of the Dead vibe; lots of missing anchor stores, lots of missing stores in general, and the remainder of the stores aren't always reliably open. The arcade sucks. There's no excusing that - put at least one Capcom machine in there. It's definitely not the Eastland Mall from its heyday, but it's still got enough shopping options, as well as a couple of other food and coffee options, for it to be worth a trip.

Especially since there's not really an alternative for an indoor shopping mall...

I remember when I was a kid we came here all the time, i loved this place. It used to have so many different stores, and I remember riding the kiddie train that went through the mall. I was still pretty young when the Sears first closed, and I had no idea why. Looking back, that was probably the beginning of the mall slowly dying. We moved away in 2016/17, I was about 8-9 years old. Of course, everybody was flocking to big cities and whatnot so we did too. I checked on my town in here today, and this mall depressed me. It was once a beautiful place to be, but now it’s barren and dead. I wish I could go back in time and experience everything again, but it seems the world...
