I first started trading, buying and promoting Mega Replay in Bloomington back in 2011. I moved abroad to Mexico in 2016 and revisited their new location after 9-years. I'll leave an honest review here which should be helpful to those of you seeking a genuine retro gaming shop locally:
Pros:
Friendly and helpful staff. Large inventory of retro games for multiple gens (as well as accessories) Very reasonable pricing on DVDs and Blu-ray All used inventory is cleaned up to 'like-new' condition
Cons:
I did personally apologize via phone call to staff but was not particularly happy that they changed the trade-in policy on rare DVDs or physical media. In 2016, if you were to trade in an oop DVD; they'd easily give you a good percentage for it in cash or store credit if it was in great condition. I had a box of DVDs (some of which were quite rare). Staff's new policy stated they'd only pay 27-cents per rare item. Which means, you'd be paid 1/4 of a dollar for a DVD that could potentially re-sell for $50+
Lesser selection of retro consoles. This is not a particular issue with Mega Replay but likely the supply & demand. 10-years ago, you'd see Sega Dreamcasts, Gamecubes, SNES', NES', Gamegears and an abundance of Sega Genesis, PS1s, PS2s original Gameboys. Most of the consoles I saw are 7th-gen and up and a little overpriced (you can find for less at a pawn shop or on eBay same condition). Retro gaming consoles was what lead many to buy from Mega replay. Don't get me wrong--they did have plenty of retro games and accessories.
Overall, I'm still giving them a 5-star rating as part of keeping local businesses like this open are dedicated staff and local patrons. If you have retro gaming consoles (or newer consoles), games and such; this store is most certainly for you and it beats the few franchised stores who would sooner sell similar items at a much higher inflated price. Keep in mind too, my cons are based on a personal bias and should not be considered reflective of the majority of buyers/sellers who are interesting in Mega Replay. I highly encourage you check our their social media channels as they run quite a few very insightful promos...almost daily. One thing's for sure, you won't leave empty-handed. There's something for just about everyone at Mega Replay...
Read moreWe are about a half hour drive from this place. We had visited before to sell some items about a month ago. It was a great experience then. There were a couple things we said we wanted to bring in next time and inquired about things like the vive and if they took it. They said they did and gave a rough price of like 500 for it. We thought awesome, even was planning to use that as store credit for a couple things we saw. We will get it over there as soon as we could. So My husband went in earlier today and his experience was awful. My husband went by himself to be sell the vive. He just didn't use it anymore and wanted to get an oculus 2 after seeing a family member with one. He goes in and they say they wont take it. He tells them we were told last time they do take it, so they said they called corporate and told my husband they would be making an "exception". They said it could be a bit since they other people ahead of him. That was no problem as we expected some wait time anyway as we did last time we visited. He looked around and we were talking about items we may want to use store credit for. He had questions on a few items and the worker had no idea about any of the items we were interested, for example the tablets. Nearly 3 hours later they tell him they won't take the vive because they couldn't get their system to test it. This took 4 hours out of his day for them to tell us corporate made an "exception" to then tell us hours later they won't take it. We are both very upset with this as it was clear these people had no idea what they were doing, weren't very helpful, and didn't know about items they even had in the store. We are definitely filing a...
Read moreTerrible service under managed store.I asked the young blonde employee with no name tag on her shirt (I guess this way you cant to see who you are speaking with to complain if you needed to ) if the store had any 3D bluray movies. I was told by the young blonde employee that she was not sure and if they did they would be in the Bluray section. The women employee then went back to talking to the male employee.laughing and giggling. I felt that the employees were to busy talking and sitting in there chairs to help me locate what i was there for. Instead they directed me towards the Bluray move section. There were hundreds of them that were not in alphabetical order. What a pain in the A** to find what your looking for. You would think to yourself that if they had time to talk they would have time to sort the movies in the correct order and help customers on the floor. The young blonde and taller balding bearded man had no interest in helping the customers to busy talking. After i located a movie 45 min to do so. I went to the counter to pay for the movie. I asked the young blonde girl if i could have a store card with the managers name or business owners name. The young girl hands me a sales card to buy some appliances. I was not only shocked but could not believe my eyes that she handed me this card. i took the card and left. So please save your self time and money go to FYE at the mall. Great employees and they help with out having to ask them. There prices are comparable to mega repalys for used items. Oh yea they have Bluray 3D in a Bluray 3d section...
