For the old times, I did shopping at Ming Supermarket very often. But now I choose C Mart better price better service. On 4/23, I bought 1.59 pound of smelt fish at New Ming Inc. where is located at 1102-1107 Washington Street, Boston MA 02118, Normally , the Chinese supermarkets only do the cleaning for the bigger size fish except small smelt. So I didn't know smelt was fresh or not. My mask was on. So when I got home, I had to do the cleaning smelt fish by myself. When I used the scissors to cut the heads and belly . They were outdated, expired, stinky , belly rotten, chest ribs bones had departed the fish muscle. The muscle was turned to liquid. They were expired for long time! When you touch the fish just like when you touch the melting ice cream. That wasn't the safety food for consumers! Because there are no health inspectors working in the weekend to the supermarket , they just placed the smelt outside of the fish glass where the customers can reach it easier . This is the violation too. The temperature was too warm for the seafood . It was very stinks! This New Ming Market has a group of 250 people in its WeChat group, so I posted some photos on the group on 4/23 and asked, whether I can return it? But they did not respond to my complaint..... …..never respond! Never say apologize to me. Then on Sunday 4/24 at 11:44am, I stopped by the supermarket customers service to complain. There was a person who in charge of the fish department standing by the customer service desk. I told him the fish stinky situation and his answer was “THAT’S IT!” Then I asked the woman at the customers services desk next to him. She looked at the man and she refused to refund me. After the arguments, then she asked me where was the smelt? I am keeping it cooked in the freezer home including the original bag which the price stickers still on for the evidence. Well, I live in Malden but shopping in Boston. Not convenient to Boston that often. I have been living in Massachusetts for 30 years. This Ming supermarket had changed owners many times. The owner or shares holders mostly came from the countryside of China. They don’t have knowledges to keep the food at the low temperature safe. They never put the expiration date on the fish or vegetable such as yellow leek $9.99 a pound. They are trying to sell everything as long as they can. They mixed the new items and old items to sell. For example, the steamers were at least a quarter dead and stinky. You can see the bad dead steamers is floating in the water . The good steamers is sinking in the water. That is how the consumers get sick or get poisoning so easily after consuming the unsafe food. Our livers got damaged too. Never choose New Ming Supermarket! Go...
Read moreWalking into Mings, what you see is what you get. It always smells funny, often has a disheveled/unkempt appearance, and the staff generally doesn't speak english well enough to understand questions and help you. They can be brash, moving about doing their business in a way that makes you think you may not even actually exist, but I honestly have never felt any major disrespect - just assume they're hella busy. This all being said - often, I am able to find a really kind and sweet worker who will make an effort to help, even if they dont understand. I generally wouldnt even give a place like this a 3rd star EXCEPT that the selection and variety of asian foods is incredible. Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Filipino even...they have it by the (no pun intended) boatload. Smallwares, cooking tools, fresh/frozen/refrigerated food, sauces, packaged items,...
Read moreHuge selection of fruits, vegs and meats area. Not the same selection as HMart but much better prices for sure. Seafood live and fresh in tanks. A lot less busy than CMart and better in my opinion! Though CMart, HMart and this grocer (Mings) have some overlap, I find that they are compensating. I’d shop at both on a big grocer day as they’re right across from each other and often find things that are readily available and better priced in one and then vice versa. Both are better priced than HMart for sure. CMart and Mings are across the street from each other and within 2 mins walk from whole foods and CVS. Combined, they have everything you’d need...
