Summer Vacation Rush to Boston!!! (Essential Guide Under $500 per Person)

UPDATE: I've now stayed in both a "Premium King" as well as the cheaper rooms. Without a doubt, the cheaper rooms with the bathroom down the hall are the way to go. The bathrooms down the hall are plentiful (I never had a wait during any of my multiple stays here), spacious, and cleaned regularly.) On the other hand, the bathroom in the Premium King is kind of chintzy with a mere shower curtain seperating toilet and showet (although I think the shower is taller than that of the shared bathrooms), and the bathroom actually cuts into the room design with the sink taking up the space where you would have a desk in the cheaper rooms. You actually feel like you have less space in a Premium King. I stayed in one of the cheaper rooms with a bathroom down the hall. Typically, this setup is less than ideal, but The Revolution's rooms have a tote bag with towels, soaps, body wash, shampoo, etc., as well as very helpful bathroom slippers...although they were a little small for my size 11 feet. Nevertheless, there were two separate clusters of six bathrooms on my floor, each with a toilet, sink, and quality shower. There was ample room to get changed, and it was easily the best experience I've had in a hotel with a bathroom down the hall. The room itself was very modern and small yet smartly designed and quite comfortable with fast, free Wi-Fi and a small desk. The rooms had a little light that I believe would let you know if the bathrooms were occupied, although mine stayed lit the entire time. The South End location is very nice, and if you're looking for an affordable room that you won't be spending too much time in, this hotel is an ideal choice for you.

First the cons- and truly we enjoyed our stay.

No coffee on site 😬😳. Now for us this was maybe just bad timing. The little coffee spot in the lobby was not open- something about the restaurant and licensing maybe? There are also no in room coffee options. I need a cup immediately and this was a bummer. However there's a 711 across the street and we frequented Blackbird Donuts just a quick walk away.

With all the industrialized pipes showing, we constantly heard water running in our room. Like I could tell when toilets were flushing and people were showering. It did become slightly like a white noise effect so it was fine.

We were in 602 and across the hall was a linen closet and the party place for housekeeping. We woke up to loud laughing and talking every morning.

Oh and we stayed 4 days my husband and I, we text the desk for more towels. They literally came up to our room with 1 towel. Just 1. Maybe there was a shortage? I don't know it was weird. But I let it go.

Lastly the rooms are so small. We opted for an in room bathroom and when we walked in I was a bit shocked at the shoebox-ness.

The Pros- However! I didn't go to Boston to see a hotel room. And really it was super cozy. It was so nice to have a mini split A/C and it kept the room the perfect temperature. Not to mention, we could just open the windows and enjoy gorgeous fall air.

Great beds, linens and pillows. Hotel pillows collapse into pancakes so easy- nope not here. Fluffy and great all the time.

The bathroom in room was locker room style and small but did the job. The sliding barn door got tricky as it covered the sink area when open and my husband and I had to announce we were opening the bathroom door so we didn't hit the other person in front of the sink.

The location is amazing. Hip and cozy area. Felt so safe and so close to public transportation. We also walked to Boston Common most mornings. Maybe a 15 minute walk.

Loved the ledge on the headboard with plug ins. There were 3- amazing. Our view was outstanding we had a gorgeous tree and the city in the distance.

Overall the atmosphere was great. We were always greeted in the lobby area, it always smelled great (kind of cologne-esque) and I have a hunch there were a ton of amenities we just didnt utilize- in part because of COVID.

The restaurant that was attached was always busy- smelled yummy. We didn't try it simply because we didn't love anything on the menu- but thats just us. I'm sure it was delicious!

We would...

Very very trendy place to spend the night. The staff are very friendly! The have complimentary coffee in the morning but also have gourmet coffee and pastries however they charge for those.

The hotel has a theme of "revolution". Pioneers throughout American history are pictured everywhere.

I'd give this place 5 stars but the location, room size, and parking bring it down.

The area isn't "bad" but I heard sirens non stop. The time I spent in the 7-Eleven across the street was filled watching sketchy people. But as long as you stay in or around the hotel you'll probably be fine.

Rooms are small, but the room design makes up for it. Smart design helps the small space "work". I stayed in both the rooms with and without a bathroom. I actually preferred the room without the bathroom as it had more space and had seats and a table (something the other room lacked). The shared bathrooms were actually very nice. Separate stalls were kept clean for private use that contains a shower, toilet and a sink.

Neither rooms had any refrigerator so if you have food to store you'll have to bring it down to the front desk. Noise from the outside and from the squeaky elevator was persistent into the night. If you're a light sleeper, heads up.

It's also worth noting there is no free parking. I got lucky and found street parking on the weekend which was free but there's a good chance if you're not careful you can get towed. There is a garage around the area but costs $25/day.

They have some cool complementary items such as umbrellas, phone chargers, and even bicycles. They don't have a pool but they do have 24/7 workout room and a large area beneath the lobby reserved for if you need to do work.

TVs are not "smart" so remember to bring your own smart device (ie. fire stick, chrome cast) if you want to use services like Netflix or Hulu

I would recommend this place if you're staying there one night but the rooms might be too small for any...

If you go to Boston stay here! What a wonderful hotel. Great location to start out on foot or take public transportation. The hotel is in a semi residential area which gives it a quite feel however you are super close on foot to so much (and i mean within a 5 minute walk) We drove and utilized the Valet parking service which was a breeze. We drove and found the hotel very easily and we were promptly welcomed by staff outside. At check in we were also met by three wonderful employees who remembered the other half of our party who had already checked in. They got all four of us into rooms ahead of check in time, which was very kind and unexpected. The details of the hotel (basement lounge, gym etc.) were explained very thoroughly to us and we then went to our rooms which were just wonderful. Very modern but unique and quite comfortable. There are quite a few small touches with the room I still remember and just covet; it made our stay special. The entire hotel was spotless and had a great feel. Busy but low key at the same time. There was even a coffee shop in lobby. All of our questions regarding food, places to visit, transportation, etc. were answered and everyone at the hotel seemed to really enjoy their job which in turn made me feel comfortable asking for help and tips. I will absolutely return here.

Don;t be afraid of the rooms without bathrooms. Although we did not stay in once, the common bathrooms were incredible and fro my next visit I will definitely use this option. Part of our group had a flight cancellation and the hotel was able to provide them with last minute accommodations in one of these rooms, which was great. Thank you...
