Excellent walking tour of downtown Pittsburgh. We are planning our road trip based on available tour stops. Our next stop is Cincinnati. One advice: ensure your phone is fully charged, as the app drains your battery quickly. We parked near the last stop at Point State Park.
Update 1: We made our way to Cincinnati.
First: The Mt. Adams Historical Walking Tour. This tour offers a fun, engaging experience with amazing views of downtown Cincinnati. I had no idea this part of town was so vibrant! If you’re interested in history, you won’t be disappointed. Garage parking is available, but you can also park for free along the streets near Wareham Drive and Harch Street.
Second, Cincinnati's Famous OTR Ghost Tour is another excellent walking tour. Although it's short, it's packed with intriguing facts. I strongly recommend experiencing the ghost tour at night to enhance your experience. While I didn't find it particularly scary, I learned much about Cincinnati's spooky past.
Update 2: Stopped at Lousiville
Old Town Louisville Ghost Tour: Exploring the Old Town of Louisville is a fantastic experience. I’ve visited Louisville several times, but I had no idea this part of town and its history existed. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the whole experience because we did the tour during the daytime. I recommend taking the tour at night and parking on Park Avenue.
Update 3: Nashville Music City Tour
Downtown Nashville was vibrant and lively. Every storefront had a live band performing, contributing to the energetic atmosphere. Unfortunately, the noise from city traffic, crowds, and the various live bands playing all your favorite country songs made it challenging to hear the audio from my phone. Despite this, it was another great experience, and we had a blast. Parking was difficult and expensive, so I recommend parking several blocks away from Broadway and walking to your starting point.
Update 4: Memphis (Beale Street Experience and Civil Rights Walking Tour)
The Civil Rights Walking Tour in Memphis is the best one yet. If you only have time for one tour, I highly recommend this one. It serves as a powerful reminder of how far we've come from some of our shameful past, and how far we still have to go. This tour evokes feelings of sadness but is also educational and enlightening. It’s mind-blowing to see why we still have hate in the world. If everyone could be humble, kind, and love one another, we would have no wars or discrimination.
Beale Street was also a fun and entertaining experience. We visited in the mid-morning when many people were still sleeping off their adventures from the night before. Be sure to stop by A. Schwab for an old-fashioned root beer float. The gentleman who served us was a fourth-generation Schwab. Be sure to ask him about the history of Beale Street.
Update 5: Jefferson, TX (Jefferson’s Famous Ghost Tour)
We arrived in the late evening and couldn't pass up the chance to experience the tour near midnight. The entire town was empty, which added to the spookiness of the experience. While we didn’t see any ghosts or spirits, we did manage to spot Bigfoot. Yes, you read that right—Bigfoot! If you read the history of Jefferson, TX, it will give you a better understanding of what was once a...
Read moreI almost gave 4 stars, but I can't ding the app for what seemed to be a GPS issue. We had to keep pausing the tour as it kept talking like we had made it to our location.
We really like the WalknTours apps - being able to take a tour on our own schedule is fantastic. I know that there are local tour guides that can give more information but sometimes the scheduling just doesn't work for the time we like to go. Plus we can pause, grab a pint at a pub, or dinner when we walk past a place we would like to check out.
The information in the tours is great, I picked up a book for my son in law on the ghosts of San Antonio and this tour really got so many of the details the book relayed as well! I really have no idea how someone could have started the tour and been in danger. You start at the Alamo, a place full of tourists and lit up very well at night. We didn't feel unsafe at all. The Alamo has a guard at all times to ensure people don't go crawling all over it. Take the time to stop and explore a few of the places, the pub was fantastic, and the cathedral at night plays a musical light show. All in all a great way to get out of the Riverwalk and see more that San Antonio has to offer along with some history of how...
Read moreMy daughter and I decided to do this tour instead of a guided tour due to wanting to do it at our own schedule and pace (this is for the Charleston Haunted tour). The narrator's voice was perfect (reminded me of Vincent Price). It's also great that you can pause it when needed to discuss or make sure you're going in the right direction. It's also very helpful that you can visualize the tour on your phone to make sure you're in fact seeing what you're supposed to be looking at. Put your starting location address into your Google maps (Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon) to make sure you get back there after the tour ends, as it stops at the very last location on the tour. The tour was plenty loud through my phone, but I think a splitter would work better so more than one could listen to it without outside sounds...
