READ THIS: DO NOT SHOP HERE! They recently raised the prices of EVERYTHING over the summer, and I have been continuously lied to about it twice! I've been shopping here for over 15 years for books and clothing and donating about 2-3 times a year since. Their cheapest books went for .25 cents, now it's .50 cents, and the other books prices have doubled as well, no exceptions. It didn't bother me too much until I asked about it, and one of the clerks I've long-known (who NEVER recognizes me, because even after 15 years, Black people all look the same to staff) LIED TO MY FACE and told me they lowered the prices! I buy at least ten books every time I visit, so I know when prices have not only changed, but I know when they've INCREASED not DECREASED. Then today, I went in as soon as they opened to purchase a desk I saw the other day that was being sold with a matching chair. I'm redecorating, so I also planned on buying a bookcase and sofa the next day after gathering their measurements. I inquired the price of said desk without the chair, as I already have one I painted and refurbished, plus the included chair was a size more fit for schoolchildren. I was even planning on taking it home on the spot without needing extra delivery services! One of the longtime clerks replies it will be the same price without the chair, because "who wants to buy a $5 chair?" Ummm…. anyone who shops at a thrift store???! I left not without asking him if their profits are still donated to The Little Home for Wanderers, to which he concurred. So it AMAZES me how a place that used to have promising intentions and excellent deals for secondhand fixer-uppers has suddenly turned so cold and seems to only care for their newly-found capitalist needs to the point where they're not only hopping up prices, refusing negotiations (this isn't a corporation, you're selling spider-web, stained, used items!), but LOSING loyal and longtime customers and definitely all my future bi-annual donations! I will be donating to Boomerangs- where 100% of their proceeds goes to the Aids Action Committee and buying solely from Savers, where fixer-uppers are priced appropriately, especially considering the work that needs to be done. I know times are tough, but is it worth...
Read moreLet’s start with the beginning: I love thrift stores! I think they are amazing gifts to the community and the planet.
I love this one in particular because it’s the neighborhood’s local thrift store. You can find here everything you need (or don’t need), from kids’ clothes, fancy plates from 100 years ago, furniture and designer items like this cashmere sweater I found today. You may need to pass by a few times to find what you’re looking for, but there is a good chance they’ll have it at some point.
What better way to recycle our stuff and let someone else use those items for a while.
And prices are...
Read moreI've been coming to The Thrift Shop of Boston for so many years that this is their 4th location since I began! I live in a small space and am pretty much a minimalist, so the stuff I do have I love. Many of my treasures originated at The Thrift Shop of Boston. Because purchases at the shop benefit the Home for Little Wanderers you can feel good about buying here, and you are reusing, recycling and upcycling at the same time. Then, when it's time for a routine declutter, or you are Marie Kondo-ing your closet, donate those fabulous items to the Thrift Shop of Boston....
