The Boynton Beach Mall opened in October 1985. Retail big wigs Burdines, JC Penney, Jordan Marsh and Lord & Taylor drew people in. As they faded out Macy's, Mervyn's, and Sears would go on to open anchor stores.
Fast forward a few decades and the American mall is dying. In 30 years only minor repairs have been done to the mall. In the past few years, the Disney store, Dairy Queen, Mrs. Fields, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Bucca Di Beppo, Toojay's, Littman's Jewelers, and Sears, have all closed or relocated. In 2014 Christ Fellowship moved in. Higher income areas like Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington and Boca are attracting the shoppers away from Boynton Beach. Outlet malls like Palm Beach Outlets and Sawgrass Mills Mall are popular with shoppers looking to save money.
I normally prefer to shop online but my daughter needed some back to school clothes so we headed out to her favorite store Hot Topic. I usually hate shopping there but the staff was friendly and the store was neat and organized. We ended up having a pleasant shopping experience.
What is the future of the Boynton Beach mall? With 18 empty stores in 2018 they need to figure it out quickly. Trends have shown that shoppers gravitate towards a shopping destination. They want entertainment, stores, and food in one area. Right now some people are wary of visiting the Boynton Beach Mall because they don't feel it is safe. Future plans could see the mall evolve into a multi purpose building with offices, restaurants and retailers. Time will tell tell if Boynton Beach Mall can survive our online shopping...
Read moreThis is a beautiful mall located in the "town center" area of Boynton Beach. We went on a Tuesday around noon, so it was not too busy. The Mall itself is not massive; we walked it in a couple of hours, visiting the various shops as we went. It has all of the name brand-typical stores that you'd expect at a mall, and a few "local flavor" shops as well. It is clean and bright. With a very nice food court - no problem finding a seat in this food court, I promise. It had nearly no empty stores, and new eateries are on the way, if that gives you any idea of the bustle this place probably sees on a weekend.
The most amazing thing to me was the lady in the center court that sold crystals, stones and incense. She caught my eye because she does spirit cleansing and palmistry. I had never seen such an interesting kiosk at a mall before, and thought it was rather daring for the mall to place her right in the center like that. On the Tuesday that we were there, she seemed to be getting her share of business as well. Quite few people were drawn to her kiosk. My guess is that she is a good representative of the laid-back and spiritual kind of place that Boynton Beach is as a whole.
The other part that caught my eye was the fun zone at the north end of the mall. They have life a size connect-four and and chess set, ya'll! Overall, I had an really fun experience at this mall and really wish I had taken better pictures while I was there. Truth is, it was better than I had...
Read moreI joined my mom for a trip to the mall primarily for her to get some new clothes, which she completely deserves because she is a great mom and just a friendly person overall. So I escorted her to the store she wanted to shop at an made sure she was being taken care of and then decided to roam the mall myself. Malls usually depress me because I see a lot of empty stores. There weren't as many empty stores as I have seen in other malls so it wasn't as bad. There was also a store which I believe was called n-e fashion. A lot of the designs looked really cool to me so I walked in to be greeted by a nice saleslady who seemed to be the owner. The clothes themselves had great patterns or graphics and were priced no higher than $14.99. Upon close up inspection I realized that the shirts wouldn't make it beyond 3 to 4 wash cycles, but again I really enjoyed the style and the shirts are so original that you wouldn't wear them more than 3 to 4 times because they do stand out and wouldn't forget so in a way they are worth buying and wearing a few times and then donating. My other memorable adventure was the massage chair. I paid for 9 minutes which I believe was three dollars total and received a good massage and was able to charge me phone at the same time. For me the best part was when I passed the kiosks I wasn't mobbed by an over-enthusiastic salesperson. All-in-all this was a clean place and I had a good time there and I am...
