Updated 9.24.22 Over the past year I have contined to visit this place in spite of the fact that each time things were a little worse than the last time. The service is absolutely terrible, but the quality of the food made it worth it.
Today we were on the fence about going because we didn't have time to spend, knowing how slow the experience would be. But I was so craving my favorite sandwich, the Turkey & Brie, pictured in my original review, that we gave it another try.
I should have known when the server came over to tell me they were out of goat cheese, this wasn't going to end well. I reminded her there isn't goat cheese in the Turkey & Brie sandwich. The sandwich finally came and it was on a flavored foccacia bread. Wait, it's supposed to be on a croissant... She said- we're out of croissants and walked away.
I took 2 bites and the flavor of the bread absolutely ruined the flavor of the Brie, turkey and cranberry. So I went to the counter with it to explain that I didn't like the sandwich, that it's supposed to be served on a croissant and I pointed to a bowl full of croissants that were sitting in the kitchen window. 🤔 "Those are for..." she never finished the sentence but clearly I wasn't getting it on a croissant.
She told the other gal the predicament, that I was asking for something different and the other gal tried to lecture me on what kind of bread the sandwich comes on. After a few minutes of unpleasantries, they finally agreed to make me something else.
Then when the bill came, they charged me $7 for the side of chips I had kept and ate while waiting for my new order. 🙄 That's ok, I just deducted them from her tip. 😉
So the moral of the story is, there is a reason this place is empty on a Saturday morning when other restaurants are bustling. A true fall from grace unfortunately.
Original 5 Star Review: Very cute place with a fantastic menu and awesome bakery items. We went for lunch and sat outside. I had the Grilled Turkey & Brie on a croissant with their housemade chips which were delicious! Try the hibiscus blueberry iced tea and take a cupcake (or four) home to enjoy later. Looking forward to going back to try the breakfast...
Read moreMy experience at Aloha Bakery was a lesson in how not to run a business. First, my wife and I wanted to eat at the restaurant and not take out and were told there would be a wait to sit outside even though there was only 1 other person eating outside and there were 2 occupied tables inside. We ordered 2 cupcakes and a croissant to take with us. I paid for the cupcakes and the croissant at the counter. We decided to stay and order food from the outdoor table service. We opened the box after sitting outside and realized that one of the cupcakes was not what we ordered. We went back inside to have this corrected and receive our proper order. We eventually ordered our meal. We had to ask for silverware and napkins as none were provided. I ordered eggs and my wife ordered an omelet with cheese, spinach and tomatoes. I ordered wheat toast and was told they ran out. It was 11 am. When my wife's omelet arrived, there was no spinach. We asked the waitress about this and she said she thinks they ran out. Shouldn't have someone brought this to our attention before making the omelet? My wife decided not to eat it, and they took it back. A young girl came over who I assume was the manager and asked us what the problem was. After explaining about the lack of spinach in the omelet, she offered to make a replacement omelet as they evidently did have spinach and the cook forgot to add it to the omelet. When the bill came, the cupcakes and croissant were included along with my meal. I had to remind them that I had already paid for the cupcakes and croissant previously. They had to return inside and adjust the bill. I thought that the food was average and the service was horrible that appears to be due to a lack of training. It seemed that the entire restaurant was staffed by a bunch of high school girls, with no real supervision. We try to support local restaurants but after our dismal experience, we will not be...
Read moreWhat a cool restaurant that offers all sorts of food and treats. I’m pretty much blown away that the restaurant has a bunch of variety of items and also a ton of bakery goods. I tried a Loco Moco, Portuguese sausage, and a blueberry muffin. The restaurant was clean and the bathroom was also clean. The staff were all friendly and the owner was there too.I just want to be transparent and say I was born and raised in Hawaii so I like to think I know good when I see it.
The Loco Moco was perfect. The big beef pattie was cooked perfectly which is appreciated for how thick it is. The gravy is standard brown gravy but I like it so no problems. I do know some people do not like brown gravy so just FYI. Sunny side up egg was great. I didn’t think I would the jasmine rice but it works great. I mixed it all up and ate everything. Yum!
The Portuguese sausage is most likely Redondos in hotdog form. Totally hit the spot and not spicy. My only recommendation would be to be careful with the slices as they can get over cooked very easily as I had a few hard pieces, but no problems.
So now their blueberry muffin. Just like the beef pattie, this was cooked perfectly. Sometimes blueberry muffins have too much moisture, but this muffin was perfectly cooked and had 7-8 blueberries throughout. Kind of reminds me a yellow cake batter but it works surprisingly well. Nothing fancy on top like some places, but it isn’t even necessary it is so good. I can only imagine what the rest of their baked goods have to offer.
One thing I would recommend to the business coming from a business background is to have the staff more spread out. There were plenty of times where nobody was behind the counter with food ready or people waiting. Just an...
