I give it a 0 stars for service, management and overall safety. I give it 5 stars for the activities for the kids who absolutely love it.
We had a birthday party for our 7 year old on a Sunday late afternoon. Party room staff were great. Very attentive in the room. Checked often. Kept the process moving. Resourceful. Pleasant. Kids LOVED the trampolines, ball pits, adventure courses, climbing wall, etc. Our older kids did the zip line and go karts. Kids couldn't get enough of the stuff to do. So as far as the "fun rating" it gets a 5 stars.
Safety, training, organization, supervision, managenent gets a big 0 stars. There seemed to be no staff that actually cared about what kids were doing that was unsafe or against their rules. Now to preface my rating, we are a family that does do activities with some risk (hence a birthday party at a trampoline park). We have a trampoline and a pool at home, we go tubing and will jet ski and zip line and all sorts of stuff. I look for safety standards in place and how staff follow protocols so I don't think my comments are an over-reaction.
At the Urban Air in Plymouth several of us parents commented on how the staff seemed almost completely uninterested in their jobs. They were emotionless and detached from the activities around them. Maybe they were not trained correctly. Maybe they were, but management doesn't care so that lowers the bar for employees. Maybe they have tried and parents are rude and management doesn't back their employees. I don't know but it was very evident. Kids were climbing in places that were not parts of the park and employees could see but did not intervene. Employees overseeing certain areas were not even watching but looking elsewhere. They would look at a kid who was putting others at significant risk in their behavior and then look away. We saw kids jumping into pits on top of other kids. Kids pushing kids and jumping onto and into other kids on the trampolines. Kids pushing over kids in the climbing area. Kids WAY to old and big to be in that small kid climbing area and not being told to leave. Employees seemed totally powerless or totally uninterested in being involved. My daughter said that on the zip line she saw MANY people (kids, teens and parents for kids) who did their own zip line harnesses and NEVER had them checked by an employee. Signs said harnesses are to be put on by employees but she said most people, including kids, put their own on. And of those, many never had an employee even look at the harness before they started the zip line. She said she was stunned by the lack of safety for the zip line. We have done climbing walls and zip lines at other places and the safety procedures have always been taken very seriously. Not at this Urban Air.
Lastly just an observation - Go karts line was over an hour wait for 1 ride. The wait for anything at the food counter was 35 minutes minimum and upwards of 60 minutes. Those with an annual membership are supposed to get a free food item each visit but the wait was horrendous. We needed something for one of the kids and waited in the line. There was zero organization behind the counter. We were asked 3 different times by the same person what we wanted (a snickers bar) and he struggled to complete the task. Took us 7 minutes at the counter to ask for and pay for a single snickers bar. Imagine the issues with a real order for pizza or something of substance. The inefficiency was stunning. The ceiling was leaking water by the climbing wall and you have hundreds of kids and adults wearing only socks. They put a cone marker up, which was not nearly enough, but I watched people walk though the puddle over and over.
I hate leaving negative reviews but I am honestly concerned I am going to read about a serious injury or fatality at the facility based upon what we saw. I hope I never have to read...
Read moreMy 2 boys and I love this place. If you get the platinum membership for 19.99 a month (doesn't include tax,) its worth it. I pay $52.00 a month for me and my 2 boys. It pays for itself if you go more than 4 days in the month and it pays for itself during the summer. What do you get with the platinum membership? You get to do all of the attractions. And. Every time you go and have the platinum membership me and my boys get 3 vouchers for 1 slice of pizza and a bag of chips every time you go. You do have to buy water. Plus, there you can stay for as long as you want except for Saturdays and Sundays you only get 3 hours. And the hours for summer are longer than that of school days. School day hours are from 4PM to 8PM. In the summer it's open I think from 10AM to 8PM. There are some things to note if you plan on getting a membership or just going for one time...They don't accept cash. You have to pay for it online. And a membership is cheaper than that of a day pass the platinum membership is $19.99 a month and YOU ARE stuck in the membership for a year. A day pass for a platinum is about $44.00 for the day per person. So it's better to just deal with the membership and stick with it for the year. Believe me the membership is worth it. Me and my 2 boys go a lot even when they get home from school. They have Go-Karts, a indoor zip line, a bunch of trampolines, a ropes course (that you are hooked up to since it's high up,) and so much more. The arcade is not part of the membership or part of the daily pass. Arcade you are spending your own money. It's a ton of fun. My boys and I do a lot of the Go-Karts and I am the only one who does the zip line and ropes course (since they are afraid of heights.) All around a great time for kids and adults. There are height restrictions for all of the attractions so be aware of that. And you have to buy and wear their socks every time you go. But you just bring them home and wash them. I bought my boys 3 pairs and I bought 3 pairs. It worth going. Waivers you can get done when you get there. Also if you get a membership each person has to have their own picture for...
Read moreUrban Air does not provide a safe space for children due to its “corporate policies.” My son was in the dodgeball area when a kid was breaking the rules and taking balls from other kids. He spoke up and said “you can’t do that that’s cheating.” The kid proceeded to punch him, and my son hit him back. There were several witnesses and other kids that said this child that punched him first (and a friend of his) was interrogating other kids during the entirety of the game. The friend of this kid proceeded to also hit my son when my son hit back. They ended up in a fight until an adult from our party saw and pulled them apart, and brought him to dad. He was sobbing quite uncontrollably, so our only priority was to calm him down. Once he was calm, he continued to play with his friends. About 30 minutes later, the manager came up to us and stated that a mother complained about the situation (mother of the child that hit my son first), so he watched the video footage to confirm. He stated that my son did NOT start the fight in any way, and saw two children gang up on my son, but since my son hit back, he too has to get his wristbands cut. I couldn’t understand why the child who acted in self defense is getting punished exactly the same as the children that punched him for speaking up during a game, but all he could tell me is that it’s corporate rules and because the other mom complained first. This was all during his 7th birthday party too, so I felt awful having to take his wristbands off while all of his friends were there. The manager said he was sorry and gave us a $50 gift card to come back, but how could that make up for such a shameful experience they put my son through for standing up for himself? I’m glad we remained calm and tried to make the best out of it to celebrate my son’s birthday, because he didn’t deserve feeling like this. He’s never had a physical conflict (or anything of the sort) at school thus far, and his teachers have never brought anything like this up. I’m not saying he’s perfect, but he is not one to start physical fights with anyone. I’m really disappointed...
