I remember grand opening of that store in 2003, I think; competition is steep in the area, with Cub, Fresh Tymes, and HiVee next door. L&B seemingly targets more affluent population, with "courtesy clerks" - uniformed 14-years olds - helping customers cart their bags back to the cart. Most prices are considerably higher than elsewhere, though selection is a bit more fancy. At times there is "big deal" (their term) sale going on, such as BOGO, which makes it a worthy buy. Another way to get a bargain every now and then is to join "Lunds Extras" membership program. Natural and organic is represented, but is not the theme of the store. Attached to the grocery store is an interesting, if small, wine shop, bought a few intriguing bottles there (one isle is labeled "interesting reds".)
Upstairs loft is a popular gathering place for locals, students doing homework (free WiFi,) HOA meetings, or just soneone seeping a cup of coffee bought at Caribou downstairs.
I go here often for quick shopping visits (for one thing, it's much closer to where I live than Whole Foods or Trader Joes,) but for a regular grocery run it's too expensive and lacks...
Read moreMy husband and I were at the Plymouth store earlier, off Vicksburg. We picked up steaks for dinner with friends. When we returned home, my husband started the grill, we looked in the bags for the steaks and couldn't find it. After searching the car and the fridge, we realized it probably was never put on the cart after it was bagged and didn't make it into our car.
After 15 minutes home, I had to drive back 15 minutes to the grocery store to pick it up. When I got there, I said I was missing the steaks we bought. One of the staff apologized and took the bagged steaks out from the mini fridge in the front. Just sorry? For the incompetent? For the inconvenience?
We were expecting friends over at 7:30, instead of preparing, I had to run back to the store to pick up a missing item. We spent $197.61 in the store, $74.22 on the steaks AND it wasn't even put in the car! This is very poor...
Read moreThis is my work lunch go-to. They offer a large selection of ready-to-eat foods that are a quick grab. There's a hot bar that varies in what is available daily. The soup and salad bar is a few feet away. Honestly, I've never been through the entire store. I know where the produce is - they had sumo mandarins back there! There used to be a Big Bowl here that has since been removed. In its place is an Asian Cuisine hot bar offering everything from potstickers to stir fry. It all looks so good! Guess what? It isn't good. It's oddly flavorless and salty for no reason. I can taste the factory goodness in every bite. Is that sauce made from evaporated cola? Possibly... Skip the Asian bar unless grabbing egg rolls, rice or potstickers. Leave everything else where it is. HyVee is down the road - go get Hy-Chi instead if you're craving sesame chicken. Don't say I...
