Lack of service for a person with a disability. Asked to leave! A disgrace! I have never been so poorly treated by a public establishment in my life. I have disabilities and use a cane, so it is obvious that I need a seat. I realize that the place is crowded. I was there as a guest of a band. After 10 minutes of trying to flag down a person to ask for a table or bar stool, I had to tap a person. I was told by 2 people to leave and come back because they wouldn't be on until later and try and get one then. I mentioned the ADA and reasonable accommodation, and could a gentleman at the bar please give up a seat. When I said that I am a paying customer like everyone else, so could someone please give up a seat. I got smirked at. The post had said 9 on FB. The first person said, "Well what kind of friends do you have if they didn't tell you they aren't going on until later?" So I went outside in the freezing, windy cold and sat in the window. I asked a friend of the band to please text me when she got there to see if maybe she would get me a seat, hoping that she and the band members would realize that I have a cane and would need a seat. I told her I was sitting outside on the window sill and would be wandering Mass Ave to look for a place to eat. After almost an hour, my knees were swollen and bruised. I went back. I had to explain the same story to the bouncer. I told him I would gladly buy a meal, etc. But the ADA requires reasonable accommodation. The bouncer told me I should go to another establishment to eat. I told him I had tried, but everything was closed. And I was there to see a particular band - one of three - that was supposed to play. I was insulted. Then I saw my friend and someone else got seated first while I was not seated, standing on one leg and leaning against a wall, in obvious pain. I apologize for getting angry, but I thought the courteous thing to do would have been to offer me a seat, seeing that by that time I was in obvious distress. "Well, there's no seats!," one of them said. At that point, I took an Uber home. Patrons were laughing. I felt disgraced. I have taken the issue up by other means. But I suffered an injury and now have to go to physical therapy.I think customer service - to everyone - should be a priority - to ALL customers. And I shouldn't be looked down upon because I use a cane. Any other place I have gone to had made sure I am seated. Usually the band and/or the staff see to that and thank me for coming. I am a professional writer. I also write music reviews for a magazine. What if it had...

Read moreThis spot is only a five minute walk from my residence which makes it an easy choice if my partner and I don't feel like taking a hike to find a hot meal.
Now, if you've ever read any of my other reviews you'll know that an excellent eggs benedict goes a long way with me and says a lot about the kitchen it came from. Namely because hollandaise sauce is no easy thing to make.
I went for their poached eggs for this particular brunch visit. This dish was absolutely delicious! Hopefully my photo of this incredible dish will do it justice because it's certainly worth a try.
The poached eggs are served with a toasted English muffin over a bed of pork confit. The pork confit reminded me of pork chow mein and it went so well with the perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.
There is also a particularly delicious deal for lunch during the week I recommend the locals try. The burger and beer meal deal is only $10 (about $11.50 after tax). The burger is quite tasty and if you're not one to have a beer with lunch before returning to the office you can always switch it out for a fountain soda (there's no root beer, remember it's an Irish pub).
As I understand it this place has some history. The Plough and Stars is one of the older bars in Cambridge. Modern and bright are NOT words I'd use to describe this atmosphere. With it's low warm lighting and decades of serving the community it's earned a worn in, homey feel to it, but keep in mind it's no dive bar either. It's always clean and inviting. A good spot for old friends to come together and catch up over a pint or for the family looking for that perfect brunch spot on the weekends.
The staff do a great job of making you and your party feel right at home here. Keep in mind, there are only 1-3 people on staff that manage each shift. Which means your bartender is often your host/hostess, waiter/waitress, the food runner, and the DJ. To cover so many services at once and do it well says a lot about the people who work here. And it's truly appreciated.
