Revolution Rail was a great experience. We parked across the street in the Acme parking lot, and paid a small price for our time on the RR. There is also parking in the bus depot lot on same side as RR. Check-in is inside- it's a public transportation spot, so wear a mask inside the ticket/gift shop/bathroom transit area, but one is not needed once outside. Each group either had a double (2 seater) or quad (4 seater) rail bike. The person in the right seat (if you had Acme at your back) on a double , and the person in the back right seat of the quad controls the brake. Our instructor jokingly said it'll be the toughest decision you make today :-) About 10-15 rail bikes move out at the same time with a staffer at the front and rear of the group. There are a few stops along the way- At the Garret Family Conservatory (you can get out and explore the area), and the Canal, and one other stop. When you are off the bike at the canal (the last stop) the staffers turn your rail bike around for the return trip. The staffers speak of interesting historical facts during the stops. I strongly recommend people to take advantage of the basket area (the size is mentioned on the website) on back of rail bike. My group had waters, some damp towels on ice (it was 90 that day), and a couple of apples. We bungeed the cooler to the wire basket. The seats don't get hot- they are mesh-like and stay cool. Seatbelts are to be worn. From start to finish the trip was worth every cent. My only grip is one Revolution Rail has no control over. A couple in a rail bike behind us repeatedly rode our tail! For what reason, I'm not sure. This is a leisurely bike trek- not an Olympic race. When our bikes got turned around for the return trip- we asked the couple to switch with us so they were in front of us. It's a shame they didn't focus on the beauty and...
Read moreUnique experience and relaxing (not strenuous) ride and at sunset a fairly nice view of the rural elements around Cape May. So if you put aside how much $$ spent to go on this 90 min adventure (and not nearly that much riding), you will probably walk away quite satisfied.
But....when you know how much you spent, you question the full value you actually get and all the little things this business venture could put into the experience that might make it better worth the high cost of admission.
On top of that, it felt a little rushed. Get on the bike, get off the bike, go look at this but be back in 10 mins, here's a quick monologue from the guide on Cape May or butterfly migration that's just interesting enough to wish there was a bit more to each story.
So, all in all, if it cost maybe half of what it did, I would have walked away happy and full of recommendations as the ride itself was quite nice. But the higher cost set the expectations too high and you end up just questioning the entertainment value of the whole experience.
Bottom line...a lot of fun but not nearly worth the cost of admission. And to be fair, maybe that's just the way it is down the...
Read moreBooked for a Saturday @ 2pm in July, what was I thinking! Well traffic wasn't too bad and I found parking in the ACME lot was quick and easy. Checked in early, staff was extremely friendly and courteous. The boarding process was easy and all instruction by the staff was clear and helpful. The ride was nice but lacking sights (wildlife). You ride out to the Cape May Canal, about 2 miles, where you get a break while they turn the carts. Conductor gives some history on the RR line your riding on and about the canal. Off we go heading back, a stop at the nature conservatory, more information about the indigenous plants and how the birds and monarchs use it to rest and feed during migration. Time to load up and pedal back to the station. They take your picture and give you a web site to DL for FREE! Overall I will do this again, in the fall, cooler, more wildlife moving, less tourist. I will also try to do some of the other venues this company has, Woodstown, Adirondacks. A lot of reviews say the Cape May route is short, well it is only 2 miles, but it doesn't take up your whole day. Had time for a pre ride beverage and a post ride meal. Thanks for a great time and...
