For over 50 years, my family has cherished Cape May, and The Victorian Hotel has been our consistent "go-to" for its perfect location and charming, family-friendly feel. My husband and I even chose the town's old gazebo for our wedding in 1997 and have returned almost every year since on our anniversary weekend. This year, however, was sadly different, and a single weekend with the current staff has permanently ruined this hotel for us.|Our issues began while booking for Oktoberfest weekend. We were told our college-aged daughter had to be present at check-in on Thursday. Despite explaining she had classes and would arrive Friday, we were initially denied accommodation until management reluctantly called back to "accommodate" us.|Upon arrival, we were met with unnecessary hostility. My other daughter walked in with us, and after informing the staff she was staying elsewhere, we were abruptly told she had to leave the property immediately. This set a negative tone for the weekend.|The situation escalated when my parents, brother, and his wife visited for the day to celebrate our anniversary. We were sitting peacefully on the upper deck, enjoying the afternoon for less than an hour. A staff member named "Natalie" approached us with her arms crossed and a confrontational attitude, stating, "I do not recognize a lot of these faces." We explained they were simply family visitors, not using amenities, but the encounter was hostile and entirely unnecessary.|Later, my husband was lying on a lounge chair by the (empty) pool, not even in the water. Natalie approached him and asked, "Mr. [Pound], do you have your pass?" The fact that she knew his name confirms she knew he was a registered guest, making the question and the tone feel like a deliberate power play rather than a genuine safety check.|The once-warm, family-oriented atmosphere we loved is gone, replaced by an unwelcoming, overly strict environment. While Cape May will always hold a special place in our hearts and we will continue to visit annually, we will never return to The Victorian. This is a painful end to a five-decade tradition, and we hope management reconsiders their approach to guest relations before they lose more...
Read moreThe Victorian Motel is an old school motel right in the heart of Cape May. It was very clean and in October it was pretty quiet. All the staff that we had contact with were very friendly. We’re frequent visitors of Cape May and know the area very well. We usually stay in a hotel that’s on the beach a few miles north of this location. We decided that we wanted to stay right in middle of things this time and checked out the hotels near the Washington Street Mall. We wanted to walk to most everything in that area. Even in October the hotels around the mall were twice as expensive and the Congress Hall was three times as expensive as the Victorian. The other reason for choosing the Victorian Motel was parking. Only the Congress Hall had a parking lot in this area. All the B&B’s and Victorian hotels only had street parking, which there is very little, and valet parking. The Victorian Motel has its own parking lot around the property. We had a king bed efficiency and it was deep in the corner and you can’t see it from the outside. You don’t get the 2 chairs and table outside the room that the other rooms have. The Wi-Fi in that room was very sketchy. When you did get a signal the speed was only .5 mbps, yes I said half a meg and then the signal would just drop off. I took my laptop to the second floor deck and got a good signal. The speed was only around 12 mbps but sufficient for web surfing and email. A note to the owners. I saw that your Wi-Fi antenna is mounted horizontally along the roof line of the office. If the antenna was mounted vertically you would get...
Read moreThis property is the perfect location to the beach, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. Updates to the rooms are slowly coming along. I and my party of 20 friends and family have been staying here for 20 years. The previous manager, John always looked forward to seeing us. Last year after new management took over our experience has changed. We are a friendly group and gather on the roof top deck to have a gathering with food and beverages. We start our celebration at 6:00 PM. Last year we were told that we were too noisy and had to be quiet at 8:00 PM. Don’t get me wrong , with 20 ladies laughing and talking we can be louder than a small group but we weren’t obnoxious at all. Especially at 8:00 PM. Quiet hours start at 10:00 PM and we are respectful of others. We also always invite others staying at the motel to join us. Over the years we have had many join us and enjoyed our company. This year at check in we were not greeted in a friendly manner at all. We were treated rudely and told that we were not allowed to monopolize the roof top deck as we do not own it and we have a table in our room we should eat at among other “rules” we needed to comply with. She also went to other guests rooms to ask if we were bothering them. I have never in my life experienced treatment such as this and probably never will again. I highly recommend that if you wish to enjoy yourself on your vacation to look elsewhere to stay. It breaks my heart to say that but this experience has ruined our...
