We visited this little park for a quick picnic in the area en route to a final destination. I understand there is an amphitheater as well here, we did not get that far as it was a quick stop. We drove through a residential area to get there, parking lot was easy to find. Meadow where we picnicked had multiple species of ornamental trees planted and spaced; meadow conducive to frisbee, soccer pickup games, capture the flag and tag type games; appears to be a park that would be popular for lunch crowd or running in the morning-evening.

While the city of Carlisle has many beautiful parks, the thirty plus acre Thornwald Park is the largest and most forested. Featuring over a mile of unpaved heavily forested walking trails, wide open fields and even a performance stage it's a location worth visiting.

Cute place for family and kids. Its nature trails are nice, but noise because of the traffic on 81. We got too much mosquitoe bites on our last visit. Its covered stage and sitting area is great.

This park and trail is mediocre. As a single woman I don’t go here alone -- it doesn’t feel safe. The nature trail is completely secluded with the tree line right up to the sides of the trail, so it’s dark and creepy and you are intensely aware of how alone you are. Also there aren’t a lot of people, so if you were hurt it would probably be days before anyone found you there. The nature trail is a loop, but there are a few branch-offs with no signage to indicate which way the exit is, and a couple of the branch offs are dead-ends. So if you feel unsafe and need to exit quickly, it’s a nightmare to find your way out. Also because the tree-line is right up to the trail, you will likely leave with tick-bites on the ankles or on your dog. It wouldn’t take much for the city to install a few solar lights to make exit easier at dusk, but currently there are no lights. Also stay away from the gazebo area in the daytime - it is a popular spot for druggies to gather and hang and do drugs. Lastly, about 1/3 of the nature trail is along the highway (with partial chain link fence separation), so you hear cars whizzing by at high-speed because there is no noise-barrier like a...

I tried to go here with my son today. We're just in town for the day and he needed somewhere to run around and stretch his legs. This was close by and looked beautiful so I set the map to take us there. If you're in this situation, be aware that the google directions will take you onto private property. We parked in a lot and started walking down the path toward the mansion area and a lady poked her head out the door and yelled at us. I tried to apologize and she slammed the door. I'm sure they get nosy people trying to check out the mansion all the time. This was an honest mistake of trusting google too much and genuinely not seeing the sign on the gate (which was open). I felt terrible for accidentally trespassing and wanted to make sure others don't make the same mistake as us. It looks like the fitness trail in the area might be public, but we didn't want to stick around and find out so we picked a different park for the day. Please be careful and read all signs if you choose to visit this area. (I gave a low rating due to the google directions, not the...
