We are seasoned fisher women from Washington state and out this way to visit family. Stopped here because of the reviews and we were happy we did. We had our fish cooler (dropped off a bunch of smoked salmon and surf perch) and was able fill it back up with mahi mahi, shrimp, yellow tail, lobster and vermillion snapper. All looked fresh and high quality. Not sure any will make it home since we know a lot of people. The two women working there were very helpful in getting us the fish that would work for us (ahi frozen right from the boat to retain it's quality), snapper scaled and cleaned to order for a steamed black bean sauce. And even recommendations on the variety of sauces. We always try new sauces to see what the locals use. We are always looking to find local fisherfolk who sell direct and was happy we found them. Looking forward to some great meals with family...
Read moreBlackburn Brothers Seafood is a GEM for Fresh Seafood in Carolina Beach, NC. Everything we've purchased has been high quality in freshness and texture. We go daily to choose our dinner selection for that night. Hidden behind a gas station on a gravel road is the best seafood in NC. We've eaten the shrimp 3x in one week. Then we mix it up with Mahi Mahi and Snapper. Each selection is sweet, tender and flavorful. We also pack a cooler with seafood before we leave the island for Charlotte. We come back here to shop for seafood each and every time we go to Carolina Beach. Fabulous fish market with great prices and delicious seafood. Buy your fish, shrimp, mussels, clams, calamari, etc. at Blackburn Brothers where the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. We highly recommend them. We will be back,...
Read moreWe make an annual trip to Carolina or Kure and like to get our seafood from Blackburn Bros. This year we bought shrimp, flounder and snapper. The flounder and snapper were great. The shrimp this year, however, were on the verge of being bad. I wish we had returned it but when we were preparing the meal and cleaning the shrimp it was after hours for the shop. The shrimp were quite smelly and some were soft and had to be thrown away.(We bought 2.5 lbs) Several were female full of eggs and were extra smelly. We cooked to more well done than normal to make sure any bacteria would be cooked out. We consumed the shrimp so I can't say it was inedible, but it was definitely substandard. All that said we usually love Blackburn and hope they'll try to keep their standards high so we can count on them...
