Austin European Market — Attraction in Cedar Park

The store offers a selection of Eastern European goods, which could be interesting. However, I was disappointed to see it prominently selling Russian cultural items such as matryoshka dolls.

For many Ukrainians and others affected by the ongoing war, this can feel painful and insensitive, as these items are symbols used to popularize Russian culture at a time when that culture is being tied to aggression.

It’s not only Ukrainians who may feel this way. People from Poland, the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), Georgia, Moldova, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and other nations also carry historical and personal trauma linked to Russian and Soviet oppression. For these communities, the promotion of Russian cultural symbols can reopen old wounds.

I would encourage the store to be more mindful of the cultural and emotional impact of its product selection, and to consider featuring a broader and more inclusive representation of Eastern European cultures instead of centering on...

So happy we have this store now in such a close proximity. I think the only thing I didn’t see was fast noodles from Europe like bigbon that I would get in BEM. The prices are ok. No surprised. I loved a good cheese and meet selection, we found chebureki, which was awesome, some Georgian items like cheese and hachepuri. Long story short we will certainly be back. Not sure how often but every time we have a craving for European food we don’t have to drive 25 mins now.

Also very pleasant people working there, which is always marvellous...
