Go back in time, when life was simple by visiting the shops on The Square and in the old Courthouse. The area has a Mayberry feel to it. You can browse the many antique and resale shops, which carry some really cool and unique items. The shops in the Courthouse are really neat, great gift items, unique finds, and my favorite, The Candy Cove! This little gem will bring you back in time as they carry so many of the penny candy treats you loved as a child! (not a penny anymore, but very affordable) Chocolates and other goodies from Albanese, rock candy to homemade fudge! Peruse the comic store, where they have the best donuts! Stop for ice cream, a casual lunch at one of the cozy restaurants or diners. You can even drop by the Sushi Bar or have dinner at Prime Steak House. If it's adult beverages you're craving after a day of window (or real!) shopping, you won't have a problem finding a bar or pub, that's for sure! Something for everyone here in Historic Crown Point Shopping District!

Wish we had a spot like this where we live. Love the historic buildings and the courthouse. The traffic pattern around the courthouse is laid out ok, but some of the drivers were little aggressive on Friday night. Twice we had to stop as cars were turning right and would have hit us while we had the pedestrian right away signal. I can understand it though because it was a little chaotic as traffic was heavy and people were trying to find parking spots and jockeying for positions. I found a super convenient and free parking lot near the fire station. Plus, it’s literally a few steps from the square where all of the restaurants and bars are located. Also had a great experience and delicious meal at Culinary Misfits.

Visited while on vacation to Chicago and we stopped to stretch our legs and grab a bite to eat. We enjoyed the beautifully well preserved old courthouse and the statues. We did struggle though with our decision for lunch as we were traveling with our 8 year old daughter. Several places were not accommodating of small children. One place was quite rude about it while their own website made no mention of their restrictions on small children. A central downtown district website would be helpful in choosing an appropriate place to eat and maybe learn a little more about the town's history and other attractions locally. (sorry if there is one, we looked and couldn't find it)

I can't rank my home town less than 5 stars! Personally I'd prefer a more modernized Downtown Crown Point, but it seems to be slowly inching in the right direction. The historic aesthetic of the buildings is literally outdated, and many of the shops are pretty lackluster as well. Some of the buildings look particularly bad, and should be updated rather than restored. Especially the old theatre that's essentially been abandoned. I feel like the historic aesthetic just doesn't appeal to as many people anymore. There are way too many antique shops. Even one is too many for me though. The new library is gorgeous. Love all the bars, Diamond Jim's is my favorite for the pool tables. I'm not really into comic books, but the coffee and comic book store is awesome. Tavern on Main, Prime, and Zodiac are great restaurant additions. China King has some of the best Chinese food. There are multiple events held on the Square almost year round, including: Corn Fest, weekly farmers market, Craft fair, parades, and more. Some people seem to like them, but I think the life-like statues are pretty creepy and just generally not appealing. Overall, downtown CP is worth a visit if you're in the area, especially for the events. It's also a convenient place for bar hopping; just wish open containers were allowed...

Downtown Crown Point, or "The Square" is a great place to eat and shop. There is free street parking and several free all day parking lots (and a few 2 hour parking lots - read the signs) within a block of the square on the east & west sides. The area is walkable and has several crosswalks. The square is a block from Bulldog Park where the car shows, concerts, farmer's markets, etc. are held. The restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and antique shops are the main anchors. Several shops are in the basement of the old courthouse, giving an added element of charm. The courthouse is surrounded by Christmas trees during December, each decorated by different businesses and organizations. The Crown Point Square is definitely a...
