6/29 update: 5 stars on customer service. The carmike team reached out and were kind enough to offer me an explanation as to what happened the other day and did offer their apologies. What occured was an accident that could most likely not be prevented and I appreciate someone addressing my issue. Thanks carmike.
This review would have been 5 stars if not for this past weekend. My boyfriend and I usually try to catch a movie every other Sunday at Carmike, and every time, we have always been pleased with the service, staff, and facilities. Granted the prices are steep, but that's any theater in the country, so we don't mind paying. We have both been excited to see Independence Day in theaters and we knew it being action packed, we really wanted to have a great viewin experience. Neither of us had tried the Big D Experience, so we decided to go all in for this big movie event. We splurged for our Big D experience, tickets, popcorn, tons of candy, drinks: over $40 for 2 people. There were maybe 20 people in that theater, but we were going to have a great time.
And everything was great. Sound, picture, film...everything. Then towards the ending of the movie, the CLIMAX..the lights in the whole theater turn on. Not on and off. Just ON. Now the screen is barely visible because of the lights, people are talking, no one wants to get up to get someone for fear of missing a scene which we can still hear through audio or because the lights may turn off. But alas, they do turn off...minutes later..as the movie has about one scene left and the credits begin to roll in the darkness.I just don't undertake why they turned on in the...
Read moreI had to give this theater a rating of "1" because after visiting tonight it became clear to me that management either doesn't care about their customers and/or they are incapable of maintaining control of their facility. I paid extra to see Wonder Woman in "Big D" at 7 pm on Sunday, June 4th, 2017 at AMC Champaign 13 (formally Carmike 13) in Champaign, Illinois. There was a group of a dozen or so teenagers whom, throughout the entire movie, kept yelling, talking, shouting, cussing, taking pictures, wrestling, throwing change at each other, and other obnoxious/distracting/disrespectful actions. There were multiple complaints but only once did staff come and ask them to please keep quiet. Staff did not check back in on the situation, they did not request to see those members' tickets, nor did they ask them to leave. Families even got up and left for home while the movie was still playing. Other people were shouting at the teenagers in a rage of anger. It got to a point where the safety of those teens and the safety of others was becoming a concern. Still, after all the complaints, people leaving, and angry audience members yelling, the teens were never approached by staff a second time. To add insult to injury, I walked out of the theater only to find those same teens out in the parking lot, leaning up against other people's cars, throwing their cups at their friends and leaving their litter, being loud and obnoxious. It's clear to me that the staff was both indifferent of the entire audiences' movie experience and lacked the leadership to handle the situation. #AMCTheatres #AMCChampaign13...
Read moreI have had positive experiences at this AMC. But in this case, we went to see a movie musical and the sound in the theater we were in was so bad it sounded like I was watching it on an old tv without a sound bar. The preview sound was fine - the problem was with the feature film. I immediately reported it and a supervisor said they would try to "turn it up" but that they could not fix the problem with the sound. (Best we could tell, only the speakers directly under/behind the screen were playing - everything on the sides were entirely off.) They offered "passes" if we were still unsatisfied. After the film, which we stayed for because it was our only chance to see it, we talked to a different supervisor. They gave us passes as promised, and when I insisted also coupons for free drinks. But when I asked if they were going to continue showing it in that house, the supervisor said they couldn't do anything about it and that decision was made by someone else. It was clear to me that they knew it was a problem, but were just going to continue showing the film with bad sound and give passes to people who complained. This is unacceptable, especially for a movie that you go to primarily for the music. If the management are okay with showing films in theaters with broken sound, then I am giving them one star. Until AMC cleans up its act, looks like the theater in Savoy will get my...
