I have been going to Oishi Hibachi Steakhouse for almost 6+ years. I have up until this point gotten fantastic service and food without complaints. However, that is why I have such a heavy heart while writing this review. The only reason they are getting a 2 is because they did correct one of the issues kind of and they got what appears to be 50% of the order correct otherwise it would be a 1. When I place an order it is usually a pretty large order. Tonight started no different with me placing an order for 6 rolls (2 large rolls ($14-$15 each) & 4 classic rolls $7.00 - $7.50 each). When I got the order, I checked it real quick and happened to see a sauce on one of the rolls that I recognized (as I am deathly allergic to it) but I wanted to make sure if it was I got it corrected. Now this roll was not suppose to have any of this specific sauce on it per the menu which is why I didn't state to remove it when placing the order. I have done this on other orders when I see that sauce listed because I am so allergic to it. I happened to see that it was on the roll. I went back inside and asked them if it was (which I knew it was but I wanted to see what they would say) and they said no but we will go check to make sure. They did go back and speak to the sushi chef and sure enough it was the specific sauce I can't have. They did redo the order which would be expected. However, the front desk representative gave me quite a bit of attitude about making sure I state not to add that sauce even though that sauce wasn't suppose to be on it in the first place. I had never been treated like that there and I was very annoyed but I was willing to let that go even though I can go several other places for similar food. Now I drive usually a decent length of time to go to Oishi when I go there as I do not live in Champaign. I get home and take out all the rolls (as I only did a cursory review of the order) and find that at least two more or more (might have been up to 4) of the rolls were not made correctly (per their menu). If it was what I received, I would have never ordered the rolls I got. Needless to say if I return at all, it will be a long time from now to see if they get things back into order. I do understand everyone has an off day and am usually lenient but I can't be this time.

It was an icy cold mid January weekday so the restaurant was more available to cater to a big crowd. The food was great. The drinks were good. The staff waited until all 13 guests arrived to seat us together, chair to chair basically. Reservations are unfortunately not taken. It was my birthday and I was allowed to bring the birthday cake. Loved the entertainment and cheer of the atmosphere. Loved the birthday song sung to me by the staff with their adorable little drum and lighted red velvet cake with a big firecracker like candle. They handed out a little tiara which was an appreciated token. My friend has a lethal allergy to shrimp and it was taken cared of very well by the chef. He first cooked the rice, then vegetables, and meats, and seafood at the very end so there was no chance of cross contamination. I bought gift cards in advance and paid $490 including 18% tip for chef and server so you can eyeball a rough amount for your party. Sake is $5 each and soda is $3.50. It’s a great place to party and make memories. I hope you found my review helpful.

For dishes that are so simple (just heating food over the grill), it takes way too long to be served. Maybe because we look young and they want to prioritize families? It took us 30 minutes to receive food. Despite us sitting and ordering first, before other tables. Servers standing around and just watching their own Hibachi performances. We only received our food after staring at the staff. One chef squatting in the kitchen playing on his phone. Though there's a reason why most don't eat at hibachi places. Usually a cash-grab for a mediocre meal Soup that comes with the combo -- mushrooms are paper thin (not even kidding...) in salty water. House salad is somehow also watery. Veggies are tiny or burnt. Even steak bits come out over cooked. The sad mayo-sauce used for sushi is served with your platter. It sort of helps out, but it's also mysteriously watery. I suppose their budget is tight.

My family and I were sat at 7 at the hibachi table. Around 7:15 waiter came to take our tables drink order. At 7:30, I pointed out to my husband that we still didn't have a drink half hour after being sat. Drinks arrived, sort of... We ordered a bottle of wine. I got a glass if wine. Husband got nothing. I ABSOLUTELY clearly ordered bottle. I pointed this out to waiter. He brought me bottle with another glass. Left the other glass of wine. Later charged me for glass and bottle. He dropped the gentleman's bottle of beer that was at our table right in front of all of us. Then, gave spilled beer to the guy like it didn't just happen. He had to say something to the waiter to get another beer. He was brought another beer begrudgingly, and ended up charging the guy for an extra beer! He brought the wrong beer to another guy at the table. He never corrected it. Ordered our appetizer, sushi roll. Also, ordered our dinner. Ordered my son's meal, (child,) and husband made sure to point out, (literally pointed on the menu,) our son needed the kid's meal. Chef arrived. Food served up to each of us. No appetizers. Everyone else's apps came out after food was being served. Ours did not arrive. Flagged down waiter. He said, "Oh, I'll go get it." Since we were already eating dinner, had it cancelled, (as though it were ever coming.) Got our bill. 3 adult entrees instead of 2 with child's meal. A glass of wine in addition to the bottle. A sushi roll that never came. Tried to explain this to the waiter. Female (manager?owner?) came over. Waiter said in front of me that he didn't make a mistake. Uh??? Well, to be fair it wasn't singular. He made multiple mistakes. He told me that my child got the combo and that isn't available on kids menu. Yes it is. We read and ordered it right off the menu. Pointed to the item! She asked if my kid ate it, and gestured to the to go box. Seriously?! I explained repeatedly that we ordered the kids menu. Apparently, he was served adult portion, and they felt that we should pay for the mistake. Regardless, we DIDNT ORDER IT! Take the to go box for crying out loud. She also tried to insist that I drank the mistake glass. So, I should have to pay for it . Incidentally, when he brought glass to me, I handed it back to him. He set it back down in front of me. I guess I should have poured it out or left a glass worth in our bottle...🙄 She finally conceded, but grew very irritated with waiter, (join the club.) So, she started berating him in front of us. She corrected the bill. I thanked her, and she scoffed. Alrighty... Rest of table had errors on their bill, too. All in all bad experience. Will say that the food was good, chef was alright, but not worth all...

We had never had a issue or a bad meal from this location ever in all the years it's been there. However last night was a definite change of epic proportion. The only reason I gave it a two instead of a one was because the rice and the vegetables were absolutely delicious and came out hot, the rest of the night was a nightmare. Upon arriving and ordering the young lady who was our server after listening to me describe what I wanted repeated back to me medium rare, which I said no maam medium well, where then she said pink and I said no ma'am medium well with a little pink . Again she said so medium rare as to where I again said no ma'am medium well. After that in a very very short time our steak and shrimp arrived. I was optimistic when diving into the rice because it had a lot of steam on it and was very warm then when I got to the steak and the shrimp both them were lukewarm at best. At the time I didn't think much about the medium rare situation until I bit into my steak and it was very very chewy. on top of all that the server never came back to our table to ask us how things were going and only once after my glasses out there empty for 15 minutes came by just to quickly drop off a fresh Coke. I hesitated on saying anything because we've had so many good experiences but as I told the manager when I paid my bill at the front desk her comment to me was rather rudely well sir you did order your steak medium rare in which I really had to bite my tongue and explain to her from there what had happened with the medium well and I said ma'am even if it was medium rare what caused the shrimp to be out barely lukewarm and everything else to be on my plate hot. Thinking she was going to make good of it as I would with anybody that would have this issue she took 10% off the bill that was it so for two cold entrees a horrible service experience and a $75 bill she brought it down to $66 and thought that was good enough. Not nearly good enough and we won't be back. All this on my wife's birthday celebration,...
