Incompetence at Its Finest. I normally love Penn Station, but this location on Town Center Blvd in Champaign was mind-bogglingly bad. I walked in to an empty restaurant—zero customers—yet somehow, I waited 36 minutes for a simple, regular sized sandwich. By the time I finally got my food, 12 other frustrated customers had arrived and were also waiting, just as confused as I was.
The biggest issue? Incredibly incompetent employees. There were four workers, yet only one seemed to be making food while the other three just stood around talking with zero urgency. And the 1 who did eventually start making food didn’t start until 15 minutes after I ordered. Then I literally watched sandwiches pile up at the end of the oven conveyor, turning upside down and sitting there getting cold while the employees casually chatted. At one point, I counted 12 people waiting for food, and still, the staff showed no effort to move things along.
After waiting forever, I finally walked up and asked for my sandwich, which I could see sitting there getting cold. What did I get? A half-wrapped, now-cold sandwich that was missing two of the add-ons I paid extra for! Absolutely ridiculous. This was the worst Penn Station experience I’ve ever had, and I wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone. Avoid it. Go...
Read moreI have been looking around for years for a restaurant that makes a good philly cheese steak hoagie. The location didn't allow for mobile ordering because their system said the location was closed, but we could see that they were open and taking orders. We went ahead and went inside and looked at the menu. I ordered a hoagie for myself and one for my wife, two large orders of fries, and a large lemonade.
I liked being able to watch them cook the meat on the grill surface. The 12 inch hoagies were made pretty rapidly and smelled amazing.
The fries were fresh raw potatoes that were pressed through a cut plate to make the fries. They were not seasoned, but they were delicious fresh fries straight from the frier.
The lemonade was advertised as fresh squeezed, and it was for sure REAL fresh lemons used to make this lemonade, but it was a little weak in flavor for my taste.
I didn't like the prices to honest. These 5 items wound up costing me $48. I could get maybe 4 steak and cheese subs from subway for that price.
In the future, when I crave a philly cheesesteak hoagie I will come here, but I won't order anything other than the hoagie just...
Read moreI don't know if it's the work culture at this location or poor training on the part of Penn Station, but we have now multiple times had poor experiences here. Staff are rude to my girlfriend and make it difficult to pick up the food we paid for, I can only assume because she's trans as this never happens when I or my cis friends pick up the order, and the rudeness is distinctly gendered. Often our order is wrong or cold because she's had to repeatedly show who she is, ask multiple times for an already finished order to be given to her, and wait for them to let her have the food even after showing that she paid for it. The first couple times we dismissed it as ignorance, but it happens everytime she goes in. My patience for people's discriminatory attitude is done. We won't be returning, and I wouldn't encourage anyone else to support this place of...
