Decent Apartment, Atrocious Management — Enter at Your Own Risk: The apartment itself? Not bad. A little old, a little worn, but it stays cool and muffles sound well enough. Honestly, it had potential. But Mark-Taylor Management made sure to absolutely demolish every ounce of goodwill they could.
Let’s start with the paperwork circus. When I moved in with my partner, I had to sign no fewer than five different versions of our lease — because the management team couldn’t get the details right. Each version had a new error. Due to all of the errors, my "official" move-in date was pushed by a full month, which extending our lease to a bizarre 13 months.
Oh — and let me not forget the gaslighting attempt of the year: when I called to see if we were due a security deposit back upon move out, they tried to claim my partner never paid a security deposit. After EXTENSIVE research on my end, I found that he had opted for the non-refundable deposit alternative when he first moved in, something they offered and he chose. Instead of checking their own damn records, they just insisted he “must not have paid one” even though a security deposit is REQUIRED to move in. Frankly, that's an egregious mistake - marking something as never paid vs having no funds due back.
Now for the day-to-day nonsense: The front office? A ghost town, by design. There’s no one physically present to manage the complex anymore — you have to call corporate, who are only reachable during regular business hours. Hope your emergencies are 9 to 5! Need assistance on-site? Good luck. There's none, unless it's specific maintenance needs (be warned - those dude FLY on their carts and almost hit cars daily.)
That advertised sauna? First "closed for repairs," then just… vanished. Permanently shut down, no replacement, not even a "sorry." The shared work/office space in the leasing office? Taken away. No notice. No alternatives offered. You're basically renting from a disappearing act.
They also entered our unit constantly. I understand replacing air filters, but “routine checks” happened every few months, not once a year. It was excessive and intrusive.
And the cherry on top? The double standard on smoking. Weed? Forbidden. But cigarettes? Go ahead and chain-smoke outside my door all day. For two straight years, I couldn’t breathe clean air because my neighbor basically turned our shared entryway into a Marlboro testing chamber — and management couldn’t care less. Even during our beautiful winters, I had all doors and windows shut permanently, and heard the same complaint from other neighbors.
Oh, and the community forums? Moderated into silence. You want to bring up actual issues like unattended kids running wild? Your post will never see the light of day.
TL;DR: The buildings are fine. The management is a horror show. You're better off renting from a...
Read moreCurrently live at this residence and can’t wait until I’m gone. Your location needs serious remodeling to match the crazy $2580 mark up you do on the average $2265 a month for a 3 bedroom. For starts in Chandler compared to other apartments, all appliances are old and need to be replaced. Dishwasher, washers, blinds, no filtered tap water to drink, all are extremely cheap and tacky. The cabinets barely can shut and open with the cheap hinges it holds up with. Lower cabinets you have to PULL open.. You get charged for any sort of service, community charge for gas, electric, water, and pest control of any kind. On top of MT Plus package $129 or so a month you can’t change. Does include your wifi but couldn’t tell you anything else regarding that! First couple months living here none stop maintenance issues, some still never fixed or addressed. Ceiling fan squeaking constantly, multiple or all doors squeaking when open and close. Bathroom shower doesn’t fully turn off unless you pull the handle extremely hard to turn it off. Bathroom sink got “fixed” but still leaks. They wouldn’t let us see the apartment before move in due to them still working on it! They didn’t say that though! We went to go look at the area and noticed people working on our apartment just a few days before we moved in! Why would these places not be setup and ready once someone has moved out!? You didn’t even have screen doors put on until then… seems like management needs to be addressed and you should actually put money into the property! Shame to have a nice area constantly become ghetto. Once again couldn’t recommend anyone moving here, highly recommended doing research. Shame on me for rushing my move smh.
Edit to my post, after looking at the past 6 months of reviews just for google, you have multiple longggg reviews like this one stating issues. You also don’t even have staff to put in your front office.. now that it’s closed all the time or if maybe it’s finally changed? Doubting it
Edit to my edit! After being charged a community fee for pest control supposedly.. We have roach a fat 2-3 inch one right outside peoples doors! Wish the picture did more justice but seriously this place is nasty, stay away.
Another edit same day as the roach. Can’t make this up, bugs in apartments as well. So much for this community charge of pest control.
(Months later , I’ve just added a video of bug eggs hatching on the side of the BBQ gazebo!) great example of how we’ll take care of this place is! Not! All my neighbors have moved out besides one, I’m located on the bottom floor. It’s depressing!!! Can’t...
Read moreWe initially moved into this apartment complex in early 2021. Despite facing issues such as severe outdatedness and existing wear and tear, including water damage and cracked walls and ceilings, our initial experience was quite positive. However, over the three years we lived here, the quality of our experience declined significantly.
By the time we moved out, the rent had more than doubled from what we initially paid. We frequently encountered non-functioning appliances and features, including the air conditioning. The management incorrectly blamed us for the malfunction, resulting in our apartment reaching over 90 degrees throughout an entire winter season without us ever using the heater. Additionally, a major leak from the apartment above us severely damaged one of our walls. The repair process was messy and left plaster on our belongings.
Despite numerous complaints, our neighbors consistently violated apartment policies, and the after-hours security was unhelpful and often annoyed by our calls.
Initially, the front office staff were friendly and supportive. Unfortunately, there was a noticeable decline in the quality of the staff each year, with new members often appearing rude and disinterested, despite our minimal interactions.
The front gate was frequently broken, leading to security concerns, including homeless individuals sleeping in their cars within the complex. While most were non-disruptive and left by daybreak, we occasionally had to contact the police due to disturbances.
I do want to commend the maintenance team, who, despite many challenges, including multiple turnovers, consistently demonstrated hard work and quick response times—aside from the issue with our AC. Most members, particularly those who were with us throughout our entire stay, were professional and pleasant to interact with.
What ultimately broke the camel's back was being falsely accused of not picking up after our dog. Despite a lack of evidence, the management demanded that we pay a fee of over $100. This was particularly frustrating as we observed constant offenders among our neighbors who never faced any repercussions for similar violations.
We moved out earlier this year and, while we do miss the complex's location and walkability, the worsening conditions and management issues made our decision to leave unavoidable. Overall, I would not recommend this apartment complex and strongly advise prospective renters to consider...
