It's a pretty trail. Very straight-forward, well-marked, and well-maintained, but definitely not my favorite. I've never been out farther than 5-6 miles from the trailhead. (You can go much farther than that.) Great views of downtown Chattanooga in the first couple of miles. If you aren't used to a fair amount of elevation gain (I usually gain around 600-700ft in 10-12 miles and am used to running with much less), it can be a bit challenging. Also, have heard some horror stories from friends that have run here and those who know Lookout Mountain better definitely advise against running alone on this trail. All that said, I often would choose elsewhere to run or hike, but I don't mind the Guild Trail if I go with a...
Read moreThis walk was 2 miles total, out and back. It has a slight elevation gain and mostly in the shade. The entire route is gravel. You can get a glimpse of the Tennessee River along the way if you're paying attention. The only detraction from our otherwise seren and soul soothing walk was 3 idiots on bicycles; well, 2 idiots and a third semi-idiot. My wife and I were walking back to our car when, with no verbal nor bell-ring warning, the first cyclist passed us going about 25 mph. The second one passed right after the first. The third one at least said, "sorry, excuse us." I'll follow King Solomon's advice and keep my...
Read moreFirst time experiencing any trail on Lookout Mountain. Trailhead was well marked and across the street from its small parking lot off of Ochs Highway. Double wide trail paved with gravel makes it easy to have a side-by-side conversation. Gradual rise in elevation the entire way with a few landmarks like bridges, giant rocks and the Incline Railway passing overhead was a real treat. Be mindful that the trail feels like it disappears, when it dead ends into the parking lot of Ruby falls. Just continue walking straight and you will find the trail continues again through the lower...
