We took our boys who are from a local academy here in town for them to get out and understand a little bit of Wyoming history. We all didn’t even make it through the front door before the front desk lady commented about how the students looked like trouble. We explained to her that they are good kids. To which she chuckled to herself and said, Oh yeah?’ With a laugh. Mine you these kids are 13-17 y/I and.of different races. She then proceeded to tell them they better be good kids and on their best behavior. We didn’t even enjoy the museum for all of its worth as my students felt extremely uncomfortable and out of place. Out of all the people this lady singled our kids out and didn’t stop anyone else. As we left she then made a comment that they better have been good. To which I replied they always are. She then laughed in a condescending way. If she was commenting to other people’s children/teens this way it would be different but it was only to us. Thankfully for how upset our students were they were very composed, respected the museum, and handled the...

Got here as they were setting up for family day. We were in a bit of a hurry but they didn't seem to mind at all, and left us to our own to explore. This place is absolutely interesting, and had I the time I would absolutely spend more time here. My favorite exhibit was the national parks exhibit, which was filled with so many interesting facts about the parks around this beautiful state. I was mainly here for the state capitol stamp passport booklet, but they sold out so they stamped a paper for me to add to my travel notebook. The amazing volunteers here are so welcoming and lovely! I will have to return to Cheyenne to enjoy more. Expect to spend 45 minutes here for adults, an hour to an hour and a half if you've kids (however, with how many activity stations I saw, I could see this being a 2-3 hour endeavor with kids). For two adults in a hurry, we spent 25 minutes running through, and I wish we had 15 minutes more to spare so I could look and read more, this is such a great free museum. 5/5...

Oh my gosh! This museum is awesome! And we even saw that they are having a prehistoric exhibit that they are working on that is going to open soon.

For being FREE museum, it is probably one of the nicest and biggest “free“ museums I’ve ever gone through.

I can probably spend the better part of an afternoon going through reading all the information about the different exhibits than I wasn’t able to read during my first visit because I had younger kids with me that were getting bored because they had “… Already looked at everything…“

If you enjoy history, it is definitely well worth the visit! It is free, and very nicely laid out, and taken care of, and has been sent, has new exhibit on their way.

If you have an afternoon free, the Wyoming state museum, the old governors mansion, and the Capital building, all within a couple of blocks of each other, are a definitely a...

What a great free Museum, they had some fun and interesting items on exhibit. They have a current exhibit "Ghosts of War" about stories behind everyday objects during periods of conflict from a vest worn in Boston during 1770 to a water bottle used in Desert Strom, so many other objects to view and read about. The R.I.P ( Rex in pieces ) exhibit was fun , dinosaurs bones and fossils. A cool Triceratops skull ( WY state Dinosaur) display. Every interesting Geological exhibits too. A nice little gift shop with some interesting gifts. It is a free Museum but I highly recommend that you make a small donation , just so museums like this can remain free to the public. Thank you WU State museum staff . A fun day out with my girlfriend and daughter, will definitely be back .

Such a fantastic museum! We are on our way to a homeschool co-op camping trail further north and made sure we stopped here on the way. We heard about it when they were at an event in Loveland, CO. A great free museum with so many activities, artifacts and fun things for both adults and kids. We had a blast and could have stayed longer than the 2 hours we were there! We learned a ton of facts about the Oregon tea, military, Native Americans, mining, ranching and more. They have a great hands on kids room with a tent, animal displays, play camping items and more. Soon they will have a dinosaur exhibit too! It's under construction right now. We can't wait to come back! First Saturday of the month is Family Day with even more activities and exhibits.
