I recently visited iFLY Indoor Skydiving and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the staff is extremely friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do. They make you feel safe and comfortable, especially if it’s your first time flying.
However, I was disappointed with the overall value. The experience is quite expensive considering how short the actual flight time is — just about a minute per flight. You get two flights, but they go by incredibly fast.
What really bothered me was the additional charge for flying “high.” If you want to go up to the top of the wind tunnel — which is arguably the most exciting part — they charge an extra $20 per flight. So, if you’ve paid for two flights and want to fly high on both, that’s an additional $40 on top of the original cost. If you don’t pay, you’re limited to just 4 or 5 feet off the ground, which honestly feels underwhelming.
Also, I have to mention the head sock (the fabric you wear under the helmet) had an unpleasant smell. It didn’t feel fresh or clean. For the price point, better hygiene and equipment maintenance are expected.
In short, while the concept is fun and the staff is excellent, the pricing structure feels overpriced and some details — like gear cleanliness — need improvement. I’d only recommend it if you’re prepared for the extra fees and manage your...
Read moreShort wait, excellent & knowledgeable staff, great experience. From Twin Cities, drove to Chicago on an impromptu trip with friends, and I had in mind to hopefully stop at iFly for some indoor free-fall lessons, for I'm in the beginning stages of AFF skydiving training (5 or 6 jumps), and I felt I needed more practice with stability. Didn't have any real problems, just felt I barely passed the minimum for each jump and wanted to "catch up"
Arrived as a walk-in, and though they prefer reservations, they were able to fit me into the existing schedule. A few of their staff are also skydivers, including the instructor I had, so that was a huge bonus for me. He understood where I was at in AFF and what I needed to work on.
Ended up with 8 minutes total, 4 sets of two minutes, which turned out to be my physical limit, too, for my arms were about to turn into jello. 1st 2 sessions got me stable enough, and for the next 2, I worked on controlled turns and motions needed for docking. Overall, it was a great success, and I was happy to leave a tip. Still need better feet/leg awareness, but that will come with time.
In an ideal world, I'd have done 3 sets of 2 minutes, and repeated it the following weekend. More rest for the arms &...
Read moreI brought my family out to try IFLY after I had flown several times in the past. Unfortunately some things had changed which didn't allow them to have the same great experience I had! Here's some feedback to the team from someone who is a strong ifly advocate!....do the high flight on the SECOND flight, NOT the first one! This gives them something to aspire to and show progression! Let them fly without being held constantly for a few seconds so that they can feel like they are doing it on their own. With older people it hurts them to lay on the wired floor and then have the air increased. Maybe find an alternate way to help older folks fly confidently that is more comfortable and not painful. Other than that the instructions given were pretty great and I loved the attention to detail that our instructor gave in explaining things. The tricks at the end were the icing on the cake ! Also it's a little cooler to have just one instructor in the tunnel with them at a time. This is just some feedback from the family I brought and other family members who went in the past who watched the videos. We are hoping that you guys go back to the old way of doing things! That was way better! Cheers...
