Subject: Formal Grievance Regarding Racial Abuse and Humiliation by Security Staff
Dear Sky Zone Corporate Leadership,
I am reaching out as a deeply concerned and outraged customer to formally file a grievance regarding a racially abusive and degrading experience I endured at one of your Sky Zone locations. As a paying customer, I never expected to be publicly humiliated and targeted, especially in front of my 12-year-old brother and other patrons, simply because of the color of my skin.
On Sunday July 6th 2025 at the Sky Zone located on 1419 n. Kingsbury St, Chicago, IL 60642. I was subjected to verbal mistreatment and intimidation by a Sky Zone security officer "Stan". The behavior directed toward me was not only inappropriate but racially charged and discriminatory.
In addition to the clear racial bias I experienced, I believe I was also targeted due to age discrimination. As a young adult, I was treated with an undue lack of respect and authority, as if my age made me an easy target for intimidation and mistreatment. This combination of racism and ageism made the experience even more demeaning and unacceptable.
As a young African American woman, I was spoken to in a manner that was demeaning, hostile, and completely unjustified. This occurred in full view of customers entering and exiting the building, further adding to my public humiliation.
Let me be clear: I did nothing to warrant such treatment. I remained composed, cooperative, and respectful throughout the encounter, despite being made to feel unsafe and degraded in a space meant for family enjoyment and community engagement.
I am a proud student preparing to attend the historic Spelman College, an HBCU rooted in Black excellence, and I currently hold an Associate of Science degree. I carry myself with dignity, and I expect the same level of respect and humanity from others — especially from employees of a business I am supporting financially.
What is even more troubling is the fact that I feel compelled to list my academic achievements and educational background to validate my character and humanity. It is deeply insulting that, in 2025, a young Black woman must over-qualify herself just to be believed, respected, or deemed worthy of basic dignity. I should not have to prove that I am an educated, accomplished, and law-abiding individual in order to justify that I did not deserve to be racially profiled and publicly humiliated.
The psychological and emotional trauma inflicted by this incident is not something I take lightly. Not only did it deeply affect me, but it also left a lasting impression on my little brother, who witnessed his sister being targeted and disrespected based on race. This experience is unacceptable by any standard and warrants immediate attention.
Accordingly, I am taking the following actions:
Filing a formal grievance with Sky Zone Corporate Headquarters. Consulting with legal representation to explore all available legal remedies. Informing the public through appropriate channels to raise awareness and encourage accountability.
I demand a full investigation into the conduct of the security officer involved and the handling of this situation by your management team. I also request a formal written apology from your corporate office and a clear outline of how Sky Zone plans to address racial bias and ensure such mistreatment never happens again — to me or to anyone else.
This is your opportunity to do the right thing. I look forward to...
Read moreIf you want your kid to be severely hurt or possibly even lose their life, then take them to Sky Zone. Bunch of high uneducated young ladies and young men working there. Manager is even worse. Make sure to Read the disclaimer that you sign before playing. It literally says your kid can get paralyzed or die and they are not held responsible. Even if they are proven to be negligent. Many parents' children have left the place with broken bones, spine injuries, black eyes, bruises, and cuts. I am one of those parents. Read reviews of all the Sky Zones and you will see it to be true. Especially this location. They can care less if your kid gets hurt. And they have kids that work there that are so high and they do not follow safety procedures at all. They just walk around with the munchies eating snacks and laughing .If you don't believe me go try it yourself but I warned you. You will think of me when your kid gets injured God forbid. UPDATE: 5/2/2025 My friend took his 4 year old son yesterday to this horrible place and ended up at Rush Emergency room because he received a huge gash right above his eye. They ended up in the emergency room for 6 hours. He received stitches to close the cut.
The manager just responded to my post now talking about "We take the safety of it customers seriously". That is ridiculous. They took my info after my son got severely injured and said they will be contacting us. They never did. They would not give me any name of any worker that caused my Son's injury. We got stuck with an $1100 dollar emergency room bill due to there Negligence! So how exactly do you "take the safety of your customers seriously?" I'm just happy that my son didn't get paralyzed or suffer severe head injury. We narrowly escaped thanks to God. Definitely not thanks to you "taking the safety of your customers seriously". So rediculous with your copy and paste responses. These are people's kids lives that your are toying with. This happened to us a month ago, and I still think about it every day. This place needs to get shut down asap. Just remember me when a kid God forbid gets...
Read moreMy daughter had her birthday party at this location 4/13. My entire experience was horrible and this my daughter favorite spot. When I arrived I went to check in at the party window. The employees told me where my area was, I went to set up my area. Not one team member came and greeted me. I had to go to the counter myself ask for water.( which was $10 for a pitcher of water, if you didn’t have a party) that’s insane water should be free. Mind you I book a party, during my entire time at this place I didn’t have not one HOST. Second I pre ordered my pizzas several days ahead of time. For me to get there and didn’t have the pizza I preordered several days ahead. So I was forced to get a different pizza or another item to cover the pizza ok no biggie. Now I’m talking to my guest, a team member walks up stating you guys were supposed to be gone several minutes ago. I informed her on my ticket it says it’s over at 7:15pm not 6:30pm. If I was greeted by someone in the beginning this confusion wouldn’t happened in the first place. We haven’t even sing happy birthday. The manager said ok you can sing but you have to clear this space for the next party. So that was a lie, no other group was coming to sky zone on a Sunday at 8, being kids had school the next day. Second they were getting ready to close. I had to serve the pizza by myself, I had to cut and serve my cake by myself. I really didn’t see why was the party booked to not be treated properly spending hundreds of dollars at this establishment. Now the manager comes doesn’t apologize for the inconvenience he just say oh the host had another party. Just forget me my kid and my funds. I think this establishment is ran by teenagers that has no clue about...
