I like to start with positives...the place was clean, quiet (nobody there except the 3 or 4 employees) and the staff greeted me upon entry. I ordered three bistec tacos and the meat was tender (no hard pieces and only one taco contained fat).
Now let's speak about why the low ratings. The meat had no flavor at all. The bistec tacos come with onion, cheese and cilantro. I had one taco that contained cheese one that had none and one that had a drop of cheese literally. The tacos are street tacos and contained more grilled onions than meat. Yes, the tacos come with grilled onions not raw which was shocking but not discouraging. The cilantro was scarce at best. The amount of meat to shell ratio was maybe 2 teaspoons per taco. 😳 I order grilled jalapeños like I always do at any taco joint and I received 2 for $2.25 and I believe they were Serrano peppers not jalapeños.
Now if I had paid $10 for this meal I would have still said it's less than mediocre but i wouldn't have posted. I'm deeply disappointed and disturbed by these other comments that this place is the best tacos. The reviews had to be bought. I spent almost $20 (each taco was 4.25) and if I lived closer I would have taken the food back and requested a refund!! The green sauce was watery sauce and lacked flavor as well! Save yourself time energy and money.
To the restaurant you guys need to reevaluate your prices, season your food and sauces, if you want to charge the amount you are then your tacos need to get creative, have flavor, and actually come with the ingredients you state will be on the tacos. I understand your location and rent prices might be high but you guys won't stay in business unless you make some changes to set you apart while creating depth and flavor. I took photos and if I can figure out how...
Read moreI just noticed there's an automatic service charge added to my receipt. I didn't pay attention when I paid in the restaurant. WHAT IS THE SERVICE CHARGE FOR?! I ordered my food in the restaurant. I didn't dine in. WHY AM I BEING CHARGED A SERVICE FEE? A fee just for you to take my order? That's crazy.
Tried this spot on a Saturday morning. It wasn't busy, and upon entering, we were greeted. The restaurant has about 4 tables for dining in. The prices are a bit high compared to the taste and portions, but that seems to be the norm nowadays 🤷🏾♀️.
I ordered 3 quesabirria tacos, 1 pork and 1 ribeye burrito, 1 pork taco, and chips & salsa. $55. My son said the birria tacos were good. The ribeye burrito and pork taco were just ok. Not enough seasoning on the steak but it was tender. I also dissected the burrito to try the rice and beans. Both were underseasoned, in my opinion. I wasn't impressed with my food but it wasn't terrible. The best thing I tried was the salsa. It tasted like fresh pico. It was really good and had a nice spice to it. The chip to salsa ratio is off. There's definitely not enough salsa in that little container for the number of chips you're given. I was able to put a decent amount of salsa on maybe 7 chips. The rest i just ate by themselves. The pork taco was ok in taste. The portion is on the smaller side. I was told the pork burrito was ok, too. The red sauce they give you on the side tastes very similarly to the pork taco. The green sauce was good. Both sauces were very thin, like water.
The food wasn't bad. It's just decent. The service charge is very...
Read moreI was on vacation this week, and being a foodie and loving tacos...I drove from St..Charles to the city (a hour one way) to try them out. I saw the news report on channel 5 a week or so ago...rating them on yelp as highest taco place in the Chicago. The owner said on tv he is from Mexico and the food is like in Mexico. He was humbled by the ranking and thought it would be nice to check out. They were busy and courteous at 11am. The Al Pastor pork taco was not available. So, I went with 3 skiirt steak tacos at 3.99 a piece. It was good basic taco, tasty. Very tasty. They gave two small plastic cups of tasty sauce included. Nice. My main issue is SERVING PORTIONS.. They had deceny amount of meat inside. But they were small size soft tacos. Not a typical size taco tortilla you typically make buy at home...or get at (sorry to say it) pepes, taco bell. It was street taco size, about 4-4.5" diameter. i saw them pack the tacos in the paper bag, seeing the tiny small foil wrapper, praying that's not the size of the taco. For 3.99 x 3 plus tax plus tip at register which I gave (my choice) plus I believe an added credit card transaction fee...this was a $20, 3 TACO LUNCH. And the bottomline was I was still hungry ...like hungry....afterwards (normal size guy here, 180lbs). For the price, I expected more. I needed more and wound up then driving to Riccobenes on 26th for the breaded...
