Sign for Beginning of Route 66 in Illinois — Attraction in Chicago

I visited the sign marking the beginning of Route 66, and while it’s a meaningful and historic spot, it was disappointing to see the sign completely covered in stickers. It’s a shame that such an iconic symbol of American road history isn’t better respected or maintained. I understand people want to leave their mark, but it ends up taking away from the significance of the place. I hope more visitors—and maybe even the city—consider preserving the sign for future generations...

This is incorrect. This sign is not the official sign to begin Route 66. I call it the “pretty” sign but, even the vagrants will be sure you know it’s not accurate. The official sign is around the corner on Adams down by the Russian Tea Room. The “End”...
