For those of us on the fence about stopping by :
Jiu jitsu is an incredible long term investment in yourself.
I’ve found that DTJC is invested in the long term growth and wellbeing of its members. It’s not another get fit quick scheme that seems to be in abundance throughout Chicago. The program is structured to benefit someone fresh off the street or someone with decades of experience. If you’re looking for something different or truly want to make lasting change - I don’t know of a better place.
The other piece to this gym that I want to note is the people. Throughout the country is hard to really guess what you’re going to run into when you walk into a “martial arts gym”. I don’t know why it’s the case but some of the most down to earth people in the city seem to frequent DTJC. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Sr Partner at the big firm or the high school student looking for an extracurricular after school. It’s a space void of inflated egos and unwanted drama. It truly is a special community that I feel honored to be apart of.
All of this is in a large part due to Adem. For those who understand the saying - they don’t make individuals like Adem (head instructor/black belt) anymore. This place is a factory attempting to break that trend. It’s hard for those great traits to not rub off.
Oh and we practice Jiu jitsu. You have to come to see what’s all about :) you wouldn’t appreciate the length of this review if I started on the mental superpowers having a basic understanding of Jiu jitsu can have.
I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the family....

The staff goes above and beyond to make this a real "Jiu-jitsu club". Efforts to renew and upgrade their facilities are clear all the time: from new mats to air purifiers, professional grade lifting equipment to even an awesome arcade machine for people to hang around before or after class.
Seminars by legends like Royce Gracie to even guest coaches for multiple classes to the likes of Clark Gracie and Cole Miller have been some of my favorite moments since I started training and goes to show how connected and respected our main black belt, Adem Redzovic, is in the bjj community.
On top of that (and probably more important) all coaches are amazing instructors and even better people. This is clearly reflected into all training partners which show an amazing level of respect, competition and camaraderie. A wide range of color belts and levels attend every class with schedule options from early in the morning, lunch time, evening and even weekends (classes and open mats on both Saturday and Sunday).
I'm truly grateful to have found this...
Read moreIf you're looking for a grimy basement to punch cinderblocks and become a killing machine this is not the place. If you're looking to learn some solid BJJ with a great team and get a great workout come here!
I have not trained at this location since they moved to the second floor, however I have nothing but good things to say about the instruction and the team here from my experience. I've been to several BJJ schools and have not found one that focuses the TEAM aspect as much as Redzovic. Incredible world famous (in BJJ) guest instructors, great regular instructors, clean facilities, great experience overall. If I could change anything I would add more classes in Lincoln Park - BUT they have different class schedules at their other two locations so pretty much whenever you want there's a class available. Good relationships with other gyms and affiliations so you can pop into some other gyms in the Chicago area for free. They've just launched online learning videos which I haven't used yet but it's a nice...
